Sight baloons over Epcot

I hear ya, however if it is mostly due to utility and roadway architecture that they have built at other resorts that would also be the same case here (i.e. For the most part in place).

I just don't see the business model of a moderate as advantageous as one that Could provide very close access into some of their new park properties.

That's part of it...

But the reality is Disney doesn't see an advantage to new rack rooms...they're doing their best to eliminate them. That's because of their high overhead. They don't need 2:1 guest to employee ratios and that's what a rack hotel is for them. DVC is much less.

And they add on DVC partly due to infrastucture...but also because they have little desire to build more pools and restaurants and repurpose existing ones as much as possible. New ones are done very sparingly.

It's my understanding that it's a large-ish balloon raised up to a desired building height so that then they can determine how a building might impact the skyline from other areas.

Thanks... That's sort of what I was guessing.

I know Disney used to be concerned about sight lines, but I thought that went out the window with things such as the Alladin spinner and that balloon thing in DS.

Read up on the backstory of the swan and dolphin...it's fascinating.

The benefits of sight balloons is that you can walk the field around it in 360 degrees to cover all the angles. Though it still takes some imagination

True, but at times even when it looks like an eyesore they build it anyway.
If it makes a buck, sight lines mean nothing (anymore).

I'm not suggesting it's to "preserve the show"...they gave that up long ago. It's just a tool to conceptualize how things would look off the drawing pad/program.

Yes, that's what I saw. They were primarily in the area immediately west of Barbados and south of the Custom House. If you look at a map of the resort there's a small pond near the main entrance - several of the baloons were around that pond.
