I wonder if anyone could help me with this....
I have booked AKL for 9 days with a 40% off code.
I would now like to fly in on the Friday night instead of the Saturday. I really can't afford another night at the AKL. But I wanted to book a Value for the first night.
My TA could not do that for me. Their policy is to only book 5 days or longer.
So ... I guess what I am asking is Can I call myself and try to use the code for a value for one night if it's available?
If so.. would that be a second reservation? Because if it is going to be considered still on the same reservation it will add another night to our dining plan and then it's again too much money.
Can I call myself? Or now that i am using a TA will they only deal with her?
I am confused.
Booking a disney trip should come with a free bottle of Tylenol.:headache:

Yes, you can call and book the room yourselft with the 40% code as long as there is availability at the hotel you wanting to stay at. We are considering this during our August stay, and also have tickets and the dining plan. I talked to a CM, and she said that we could book a "room only" code for the one night. It was my understanding that it would be a separate reservation as she said we may not be able to keep the same rooms when our package starts the following day. Have a wonderful time.

I can only relate my experience - I have 4 nights (as a pkg. w/DDP & 1 base tix) booked thru a TA at AKL. Originally I thought I'd stay at the airport the first night and not throw away $$$$ at AKL. Then I found out how expensive the airport hotels were so I decided I might as well stay at a Value on property! I tried to book my first night w/o the DDP and w/o the tix at ASMu by calling Disney directly; however, they didn't want to take my ressie when I called directly; they told me I had to go thru my TA.

i so regret going thru a TA b'c now I've lost the ability to call, change resorts midstream, etc.!

You COULD book it online but again you'd be incurring a 2nd booking so that would be a 2nd deposit.

good luck!

Of course you can call Disney directly and ask to book one night only at a value. You would have to pay in full for the one night (since they have a minimum $200 deposit for a reservation) and it would be a seperate reservation from AKL. You would check into the value resort, check out the next morning and check into AKL.

Thank you so much for the responses!
I will try to call tomorrow.
When you book over the phone for something like this do you pay the entire room cost on the phone with a credit card?

The $200 deposit is only for packages. Room only reservations require a deposit equal to one nights room rate + tax which for a value will be much less.

Gotta say I would honestly be looking for a new TA (and I"m not a TA basher). You've got a 9 day reservation with them already and their policy keeps them from servicing you the customer - and taking a little more money from you to boot?? I can maybe see being reluctant to book a one night stay for someone who just walked in off the street and doesn't need anything else from them. IMO they're not giving you very good service ........
Have a good trip!

Good point Pluto.

If you don't want to change agents, let him know that you're booking the extra night yourself if he doesn't want to book it for you. He can find a way around the policy or lose that little bit of commision-- and possibly any further commissions from you if you realize that you can do things without his help.

Totally agree! An agent's reputation is built on their customer service. Very shortsighted....

pigletto, I'm sorta in the same fix. My TA has been rather snarky (all via email so I may be reading something into it :confused3) and yesterday when I asked if she could find me an additional room for the night before our original booking she told me that she couldn't find anything at any of the value resorts at any price. I just called and was able to book on my own a room at the AS Sports - at the discounted rate!! :cool1:

DH says that next time I am not going to use a TA, I do a better job getting what we want, when we want it, where we want it & for the price we want to pay. Now, having said that we are room only reservations for 3 people. If we had more intricate reservations to be made I wouldn't hesitate to use a TA but for room only, I do think I can do it just as well.

Don't be afraid to try calling Disney on your own!

Is your air flight booked with the TA also. If so can they change your flight from Sat to FRiday without cost.

We have a fairly complicated reservation. Two packages: 3 nights at AKL followed by 5 at Poly. Both with DDP and park hopper. I did it myself with a CM and was very happy with all the help she gave me. We went through all the options: park hopper on only one reservation etc. but I decided on convenience even though it cost a bit more. I wouldn't hestitate to book yourself...especially if you know exactly what you want the CMs are great.

Thank you for all the feedback. I was able to call this morning and book ASMU with the code for the extra night.
I do think the policy is a little strange.. but my TA has been wonderful and very prompt about everything. For this trip she absolutely took the headache out of all the planning as we have never stayed onsite before and I was getting really confused with all the details.
