We're planning on doing a day trip to Siesta Key from WDW in May. We'll be visiting Siesta Key on a Wednesday and plan on leaving the Boardwalk around 6:30am.

Being the fact that it's a weekday and there will be rush hour traffic, would you recommend I-4 or FL-37 (those were the 2 routes Mapquest gave)?

Thanks!

Hi, We take I-4W to I-75 S toward Naples. ( I used Google Maps and it took this way also) We have done this drive quite a few times and it is about 1 1/2 hours to Siesta Key. We usually also go down to Venice and that drive is about 2 hours. Joan

I-4 and 75 for sure. The other would be a lot of places that you'd have to slow down. We took one of those routes to Port Charlotte and it seemed to take forever, small towns along the way with traffic lights. :(

I don't think you'll notice work traffic on I4 unless you leave really early, and even then the traffic is only from Lakeland to Tampa and not enough to slow you down, just a little heavier. I haven't noticed it returning to Orlando either. The only time we worry is if we go to Clearwater Beach and have to drive all the way through Tampa, then you have to be extremely aware of the clock and rush hour. Part of the appeal of Siesta Key is that you don't have to worry about the rush hour much.
