Hi, we leave next week to celebrate my daughters first birthday! I am very particular about her eating healthy, usually all organic, so I am a little worried how to approach ordering for her on this vacation...does anyone know if I will be able to order something that is a side dish for a meal separately? For example if a sandwich comes with sweet potato wedges or broccoli but are not offered on the "sides" menu, can I still order those items al carte? hope that makes sense!

Your question makes sense and I don't know the answer, but I would be very surprised if you could do that. If it is not an item on the menu, per se, they won't have a mechanism to place the order in the computer and charge for it.
For a one year old, you can order that as the side for your meal and she can eat off of your plate.

Disney is pretty accommodating. Your kiddo technically eats free off of your plate, so if you do any character meals you can certainly get her some veggie sides. I bet they'd be willing to bring you a little something and probably would not even charge you for it. You're not going to get organic there though ;) It's one of those things where I don't think there is a set rule or price but all reports are that disney is pretty accommodating about such things.

It has been my experience that they will bring you anything they serve in the restaurant in any form/quantity you want it. My Mom has some eating issues and often will order 2-3 sides instead of a meal. If she sees something that's offered as part of another entree, she will just ask for it. "Can I have an order of the polenta that comes with the chicken dish?" She has never been told "no". Now, what she is charged for that side is another issue. Sometimes I think she is over charged, and other times undercharged, so I guess it all works out even.

From my experience, at table service locations the answer is usually yes. Quick service the answer is:

At table restaurant you can substitute a side for one is in the menu already.

I substitute a corn soufflé for broccolini. They put a ton of broccolini In My Plate. I ate all the broccolini. Disney vegetable under dose lol!

The Green beans at Be our Guest are fantastic! You can substitute the fries of the menu for them even is à Quick service.

Keep in mind anything you order specifically for her won't be free. Under 3 eat for free from your plate, but if you order food for her they will (usually) charge for it.

If you're really looking to keep her organic you should order a garden Grocer delivery and bring in food for her. Probably be less of a headache.

Some of the stands have little power pack lunches that are fruit and such.

I would think your best approach would be to try and review menus at home before your trip. Try to put together an outline of where you will be eating and then list out a first choice then an alternative in case you are turned down. If all else fails, bring food into the parks with you in a small cooler, etc so that you will always have something for your child. If you don't want to carry it around, there are lockers for rent at the parks.

if you are talking about ordering something off the menu besides what you are eating be prepared to have to pay for it even if you are on the dining plan. the littles eat for free of eating off your plate. if at a buffet or all you can eat they bring to your table you can usually make their own plate. the all organic is going to be harder and they will not be able to heat up for you.

thanks everyone! I feel a lot better! we changed from quick service to the regular dining plan, where I feel more comfortable with the table service options. and we did place a Garden Grocer order!
