If you use DDP points to eat at a restaurant with a semi a la carte menu, do you pay extra for the side dishes? For example, the Yachtsman offers entrees with a starch such as steak & potato. Would you pay extra if you wanted to add a vegetable?

Yes, you would pay extra.

You would be able to substitute, for example (this is just a guess, I'm not going to track down a YSH menu ;)) mashed potatoes for a baked potato; but if there was a list of sides that included, oh, asparagus and spinach at an added cost, you would need to pay for those - whether or not you accepted the potato or other starch that comes with your meal.

Yes anything extra you pay for.

Some places will let you substitute and others will not.

not sure about that specific restaurant, but our experience has been that many of the restaurants give you 2 vegs with the entree--like steak/rice/green beans, or steak/potato/asparagus spears. Not always, but often. Also, though it's not on the menu, virtually all the restaurants start you with some sort of specialy rolls/breadsticks/artisan bread so even if you get not appetizer, you're starting with something while you wait for your entree.

We've never gone away hungry:rolleyes1

We had the deluxe plan last year and our waitress at Artist Point told us all to order sides because they were included in our plan. We had to pay extra at Le Cellier and Jiko. I think there was one other restaurant that we were told we could get sides included but we didn't and now I can't remember what it was.

I think the sides are always extra with the regular plan but it appears that some restaurants include them in the deluxe plan.

Depends on how much extra veg you want...To give you an idea of what you get with entrees at Disney...here's some pictures of entrees from last September (this was not the deluxe dining - this was free dining. What you see on the plate is what came automatically with that entree.) Going through my dining reviews, I found that majority of entrees came with a starch (potatoes, rice or pasta) and a veg.

From San Angel Inn: Mahi-Mahi a la Veracruzana which is grilled mahi-mahi with olives, peppers, onions, and tomatoes in a white wine sauce over white rice.

I was able to substitute my potato with the creme spinach with my cowboy steak entree at Yachtsman Steakhouse last summer. It never hurt to ask your server. You can always opt not to sub if they are going to charge you extra. BTW, the spinach was amazing!!

We found that we were usually able to sub a side that was offered as a side for another entree for no additional charge. But if we wanted to add something extra or sub for something that was listed in the side dish section of the menu that we had to pay extra.

Your responses were very helpful. I tend to like veggies better than starches, so sounds like I have nothing to lose by trying to sub. The photos were delicious looking! And plentiful helpingd, too!

I don't care for potatoes and have been able to sub one of the vegetables listed at the bottom of the menu at Yachtsman. I've also been able to get one of the vegetables listed at the bottom of the Artist Point menu, when I didn't like what came with my chosen entree. I was refused though at Le Cellier.
