Well, I have been reading journals for the past week and have finally gotten around to starting my own. A little (or a lot) about me: I am 30, with a 3 1/2 yo son, Alex. My Dh, Paul and I have been married for 6 years now- together since 1994, though. I manage a bank and he manages a wholesale supply company. He's always been thin- was a runner in school; I was muscular, a dancer through college, but just fat now. I can't stand the person I've become- well, the physical person, at least- I'm happy with the real person I am. As far as the physical fat person, though- yuck! I once taught aerobics to people and now I hate to excercise- maybe I can get back on the excercise track one day, though.
Last week, my Asst and I were looking and calling around to fat doctors. You know, calling to see how much they charged for the Rx diet pills. Well, I came upon an ad in the yellow pages and for some reason, it kinda struck me. I called and they were the most expensive, so, true to form, I made an appointment to go that night (last Tuesday) to hear the nutritional class they do. Well, they have this program, rather than just give you diet pills. The lady is a nutritionist and will teach me how and what to eat- really to change the way I've been eating. I will go to be weighed and measured (my wellness check) every week now. I made an appt with the doctor on staff to get the diet pills for Wednesday. I know, please don't get on to me for the pills- I've heard it all. But, I'd like some help with my appetite. I am always hungry and wanting to eat- I'm hoping I can just take them for a month and then my appetite will be "used" to the idea of eating less. I also got some supplements and vitamins. She put me on a 1200 calories/day and 20 fat grams a day plan. They took before photos and I did that Tanita scale that shows all my stats. So here are my before stats:

On her Dr scale, it said 182 pounds, the Tanita scale said 180- and my home scale said 182, so I'll go with that.
BMI- 29.1- whoa!
Fat % 37.8- Oh MY!!
68 pounds of fat mass!
12 excess pounds of water weight!

To stay at my current weight, I need 1609 calories a day. So, this 1200 a day plan should work, right? We'll see!

OK, wanted to start a new post withupdates and all.
So, today is Monday- almost a week since I started- I officially didn't start until last Wednesday, though. On my scale at home, I am down to 177.6- that's be a loss of over 4 pounds! I know you aren't suppose to lose more than about 2 pounds a week, but I know I've lost some of my water weight because I've been drinking my water like crazy! Plus, she said that I could lose up to 15 or even 20 pounds this first month. I am under a doctor and nutritionists supervision here, so please no flames! Plus, it will be hopefully most of those 12 water pounds! I've been taking my supplements and 1/2 diet pill each day. I wanted to start those slow to make sure I don't get jittery. I've gotta call her back today to see when my next appointment is this week- I forgot to write it down!
This weekend I did OK- I am suppose to be eating whole wheat pastas and no white potatoes, pastas, or bread- and no corn. Well, I didn't have the money to go back to the grocery store and re-buy everythign I just bought, so I have been having regular pasta. I've not had white bread, though. I had a small ear of corn this weekend as we had friends over to grill and that's what we served.
Now today, DS is running fever, so I'm hoping I can do OK while at home with him. At work, I get into a mode and don't think too much about it. Everytime I want to sit and eat, I'll come here to read, though- that motivates me.
Well, off to read up on other journals- I've been reading but not posting for a while, so I guess I'll drop in to say hi to everyone's I've bene keeping up with. Have a great Monday all!

Brandi

Brandi - you won't get any flames from me. I've been there, done that....twice! As long as you are learning to eat right and exercise, I see no problem with giving your metabolism a little kick in the butt. The first time I used the diet pills, I lost 30+ lbs....but didn't learn a thing about eating and didn't exercise at all. The second time I only took them for a week because my mood swings were really drastic. (When I got mad, it was really scarey....like punch a wall scarey..) Just be careful on them and know your body well enough to know when to stop taking them. what are you taking anyway?

Good luck and keep posting!!!
Marie

Hey Marie- Thanks! I am taking Phentermine- I am concerned about what it may do, which is why I'm only taking the 1/2 pill right now. Plus, I am so tired all the time, it has really helped me in that area, too. I really do hope that I will only take them for this first month. I am learning a lot about my eating, too.

Oh, I think I forgot to mention that when I go back tomorrow, she will have an "after" picture of what I will probably look like once I've lost 35 pounds! She'll print it for me so I can keep it to stay motivated- that will be cool! She'll also have a meal plan for me based on what I told her I liked and didn't like, so that should help, too!

Hey Brandi (that is your name, right? I hate to assume because I'm usually wrong!). Congrats on starting your own journal! :cool1: Keep up with it, it's a GREAT motivator!

As you know, I also work with a nutritionist. I can't say enough good things about it. Like Marie said - learning the right foods to eat, and what different kinds of foods do to your body is the best thing for you. It's a life-change. You'll always have this knowlege to use and work with. And it's great for the whole family too. Your son will grow up learning about and eating the right foods - and that is a great thing you're doing for him, even if you originally did it for you!

Congrats on the progress you've made already! If you follow the plan, you will absolutely lose every week - even without exercising (until you lose a certain amount and then need to add in the exercise).

Welcome, and congrats!!

Thanks, Kim! Yes, my name is Brandi.
Well folks, have't done too great these past two days. My son, Alex has been sick, so that kinda has been messing things up. I do well when at work, but home doesn't bode so well for my new lifestyle. I haven't bought the good grocereis yet since I had just purchased groceries and don't have the extra money to go out and buy all new stuff. So, my plan has been just to eat better. Well, yesterday I did OK until supper. DH brought pizza home for him and Alex since that's all Alex would agree to eat- his throat his hurting and he won't eat much, so we've been letting him have whatever he will eat. I told him to get personal pizzas for each of them so I wouldn't have one to eat. Well, he got the little combos with breadsticks and I ate two of those! Still came in ok on my calories and fat, though.
Today, I did really bad. Took Alex to the doctor and he said that he has a throat infection and gave him Zythromax- plus instructions for all his other meds- the poor child has allergies that give him fits. the Dr also suggested that if there was somthing he would eat, to let him have it since he probably wouldn't eat much. So, on the way home, he wanted McDonalds. I don't eat that, but went to Taco Bell next to it and got a Mexican Pizza. I know- that's terrible! 550 calories and 31 fat grams!! Oh my!! Well, that's all my fat for the day, huh? Of course, I'm startving now at 4:30! I will eat a Lean Cuisine for dinner and just be over on fat. I did not take my diet pill today since I knew I'd be at home- but I should have- maybe I'd of been better. Oh well- new days!
So, my plan for tomorrow is to take the diet pill and other stuff even if I am still at home with DS. I hope he is OK tomorrow, though. I already have my Asst out on vacation, so I hate to be out, too.
I also would like to get a walk in, but not sure if it'll be tonight. It's so bloomin hot already. I've had a little case of tummy trouble since I ate so bad at lunch and I'd hate to get around the block and need to "go." Sorry for the TMI!!

OK, well off to check the other journals and get motivated! Thanks for stopping by!

Hi Brandi,

I'm sorry to hear that your DS is not feeling well. :( I hope he starts feeling better soon! :goodvibes

Have a great Wednesday! :sunny:

Hi There!!! Welcome to WISH!!! This is a great support system!

Sorry to hear that you DSis not feeling well...hopfully the meds that the doc gave him will start to work!

You are doing a great job....you have a wonderful outlook...you fall off, today is a new day!

Keep it up! Have a great day!

Hi Brandi....

Just wanted to pop in and say hi!!! :wave2:

Hope you are having a wonderful day!

Hey ladies! Thanks for the well wishes for my DS. He is much better and rip-roaring like crazy now! I'm back at work and was yesterday as well, so I am doing MUCH better on the eating! Eysterday, I had an orange for B-fast and a Chargrilled chicken sandwhich for lunch. For supper, I had 1/4 of a whole wheat tuna sandwhichm, 10 lays chips and a small saald- all from Jason's Deli. We had a "Call night" at work last night so they provided the food. I did pretty good. I haven't added up the calories, but I am sure that I'm under the 1200.
Today, I had a granola bar this moring- I think it was 120 caloires and 1.5 grams of fat, but I'll have to look at the box when I get home. I have to close tonight at work, which is just until 6, but it will be a long day. I'll run out for a while to got get DS his baseball stuff.
I'm so frustrated at that. He started Micro T-Ball- well, he was suppose to start on April 1. Well, they moved the start day back to April 8. I never was contacted by his coach until the 5th!!! She told me they had practice the night of the 7th and the first game was on the 8th. Well, we had to be out of town that weekend, so he didn't get to go, but I spoke to the coach and let her know. There was nothing last week due to Easter. I emailed the coach to ask about this week's game and practice and she finally emailed me back that she would not be there (she wasn't there for the first game either), but that she had someone helping her who would get in touch with me to let me know the practice and games times. Well, it's Friday and I've heard nothing!! I am so mad! I called the YMCA, whichis who it's through and the Sports Director wasn't much help. He said that the oly name he had was teh Coach's and didn't know anyoen who'd be helping. HE did tell me the time their game is on Saturday- 8 AM!! But, they don't reserve practice fields, so he didn't know if they had practice or not! Alex doesn't have his shirt or cap, and I'm worried that she won't remember to bring it and he'll be the only one without it. I know it's not ahuge deal- but to a 3 year old who has been saying since he could talk that he wants to be a baseball player when he grows up, it is a huge deal. He will be extremely upset if he doesn't have his stuff. I don't know what to do! I'm gonna try to call the Y again to see if I can get a name and number of one of the other team member's parents- maybe they can help. OK, I've quit ranting now!

Have a great day everyone!!

Hi Brandi,

So glad to hear that you DS is feeling better!!! That is great for both you and him.

Sorry to hear of the trouble that you are having with the YMCA....it does not sound like they really know what is going on. Hopefully you can get it taken care of today before the game tomorrow. Good Luck!

Have a great Friday and a good weekend. Keep up the good work!

Hope you're having a good weekend, Brandi! T-Ball & kids sports in general can be so frustrating. Hang in there!

Hey gang! Well, for the T-ball status- we went to the park Friday night and they weren't practicing. So, we went back up there Saturday for the game and he got to play. Of course, the coach wasn't there, so he was the only one without his uniform, but the sub-coach made up for it by letting him bat first and play pitcher for most of the first inning. He had a ball! I recorded it, but halfway through, my camcorder ate the tape!! Geez! Guess what I'll be asking for soon? Oh well- he had a ball and we haven't stopped playing since! That's all he wants to do as home- play baseball- wearing me out!

For my new lifestyle- I did great until Sunday!! We went to Craker Barrell- took over an hour to get seating and another 45 minutes to get our food! Thank goodness I ordered lunch since it was lunch by the time our food came! I ate fried chicken breast, mashed taters and mac-n-cheese. However, I did not clean my palte like usual. Then, I made whole wheat spaghetti for dinner and ate only a little. I checked the scale this morning and was down another 5 pounds according to my scale!! Yay! I have been focusing on eating better and less each meal, so I am pretty much staying on track! My WI with the nutritionist is tomorrow morning though, so I hope it stays as good with her! So far this morning, I have had 32 ounces of water and all of my vitamins and meds, so this should be a pretty good day. I had a granola bar for breakfast and will have either left-over spaghetti or a lean cusine for lunch. Probably will have an apple for an afternoon snack. My Dh says he can see that I've lost weight, which was really nice to hear. I usually wear hose with all my pantsuits to suck my tummy in and I didn't wear any this morning. When I put my pants on, I figured I'd have to take them off and go find hose to make it not too tight, but I didn't!! Yay again!
OK, so now I'm off to read some journals- kinda dead here at work and Mondays are not the days to go make customer calls!

Hi there,

Yeah for the loss...that is great!!!

Glad to hear that the game went well....and that the subcoach made up for your son not having a uniform!!! Hopefully he will have one for the next game!!!

You eating was good...I don't think you did all that bad!

Keep up the good work and have a great day!

Hey Brandi - you're doing great! Congrats on the loss. I'm sure you'll see a nice loss at the nutritionist.

That's awesome that your DS can do tball already! My DS would love that. His only option this year is a summer camp for 5 nights and they'll introduce him to a bunch of different sports. I think in the fall when he gets into Kindergarten he'll be able to sign up for certain things. The only thing he does right now is karate because the karate school comes to his daycare during the day.

Keep up the great work! And let us know how you make out at your nutritionist appointment!

Hi Brandi,

Congrats on making a commitment to a healthier lifestyle!!! :thumbsup2 You really are doing great so far, really impressive loss! Just wanted to stop by and offer my encouragement and support :). :grouphug:

Hi there,

How are you doing today???

Hope you have a great day! Keep up the good work

Hey Brandi...how'd you make out today at the nutritionist? :confused3
