Sick kitty at the vets, I need a hug

Hopefully your kitty will be alright. When he gets better I'd start looking for a new, more compasionate vet, maybe one who will do one test at a time.
I have to agree here 100%.........last year I went through $2000.00 and they still didn't know what was wrong, I resigned myself to let her pass.....I just could not afford all the tests they were talking about..... and I too told them I just didn't have that kind of money and basically got the same reply you did. I took her home (Binky) she wouldn't eat and was wasting away, I ended up force feeding her baby food through a syringe, it took about 3 weeks and she was back up and herself! I found another vet, one who is more compassionate and I who will let me make payments if I am ever in that situation again. Although I know the situations are different but I guess what I am trying to say is that we do the best we can for our animal friends but at times we have to decide when enough is enough. Vets should run 1 test at time and go from there. I am praying that Smudge returns home to you and recovers. :flower3:

Hope everything goes well. Keep us posted. And I agree, after this you should find a more compassionate vet. You are NOT a cheapskate and you shouldn't feel any less of a person because you questioned the costs of the medical care.

My cat was diagnosed with Hepatic Lipidosis about a month ago so I have an idea what you are going through. Luckily my vet has been wonderful... Don't let their comments get to you...you have enough to deal with.

Hi everyone... well the latest is that they have no idea what is wrong with Smudge.

Her white blood cells are low, she has a slight temperture. Her liver/fatty liver tests were fine, she is not jaundiced, her pancreas is fine too.

She is still not eating on her own, they gave her an appetite stimulant and she will take food off their fingers when they sort of force feed her.

The vet suggested more tests, ultrasounds, xrays etc... right now the my bill is at 1160.00.

I am going to let them dothe ultrasound for another 250.00 and the vet says (assuming they discover nothing from that) I can pick Smudge up tomorrow evening and take her home to see if she does better here.

I am going to set up our dog's kennell/cage on the dining room table with blankets inside& a litter box for her and keep her in there and hand feed her a special food until she gets stronger.

So thats all the news for now, thanks for all the good wishes.... this is Smudge at the vets (last time with lipidosis)

What a cutie-- poor baby. Sending good thoughts your way!

Many hugs for you, Cass, and Smudge. :grouphug:

I hope she can pull through this and get better soon.

Sending you and Cass some pixie dust and prayers for a speedy recovery. :wizard:

Still keeping Smudge in my prayers. Perhaps she will do better at home.

Smudge is so cute! I hope she pulls through - my kitties (Beatrice and Rosalind) send best wishes to Smudge, too!

Oh poor thing :(. I started to cry when I saw her picture because she looks just like my beloved cat Tiggy when he was at the vet. I hope Smudge will do better at home.

Mean vets suck . We gave up on the best vet in the city because he had no compassion whatsoever.

Okay, so I got smudge home last night.

I had to take a cab because my husband is away on a trip right now.

So I get her in the cab and she is wailing and wailing from inside the pet carrier... I opened the door so I could reach in and stroke her and she burst out of it.... on my lap, paws up on my chest rubbing her face against my face purring. I held her in my arms the hole ride home.

Got her home... and I have the dog kennel set up with blankets, litterbox, water and I have this food the vet gave me that I am supposed to force feed her. We put her in the Kennel and she cried and cried and wailed... we ignored it but after 45 minutes she was getting hoarse and banging the doors with her head and paws.... so we gave up and let her out.

She went straight upstairs and under a bed... but then as I was on the computer, an hour later or so, suddenly she was beside my chair and standing up on her hind legs to see me, touch me.. I lifted her up onmy lap and she sat with me for an hour and purred.

Then she disapeared again, but when I woke up this morning she was with me in bed :sunny:

That is good to hear Cass. Hope she feels better and makes some improvements at home.

Awwww, hope she gets better!!! What a great thing to wake up to though!! :) :)

I'm sure being home with her family will be the best medicine for Smudge. Make sure she eats and drinks to keep her strength up--even if you have to put boards around the beds so she can't hide from you. Will continue to send good thoughts to your kitty.

I'm so glad Smudge is purring for you and snuggling with you! I hope she eats and drinks for you and she'll get better soon. What a sweetie she is!

I agree that being at home makes all the difference in their recovery! When my parrot was in the hospital for 10 days, it wasn't until she came home and we gave her TLC that she started making major improvements.

I'm glad to see Smudge is sharing affection with you!
