I just got out of the hospital after being rushed their last week with chest pains. Not only turns out that I had a blood clot in my heart but further testing also revieled that I have a CNS Brain tumor that is growing towards my eye. They released me from the hospital with alot of meds to make sure the tumor does not grow, until the operation in Jan. My problem is that I have no Insurance and the County Welfare Office states that I make too much money to qualify for help( I don't even make enough for week to week, let alone now medical) Is there any place else I can turn for help with this and with my prescriptions (11). I live in PA if that matters.

Wow. That is a tough one. I hope everything works out just fine for you. I think I would start calling around to the hospital, doctors offices and start looking at every resource I could think of. I am sure there is somewhere you can get help. Maybe find other forums devoted to your kind of situation? I am not sure the DIS is the place that can answer this type of question.

I am sorry you are going through this. I hope you get better soon.

some drug companies offer assistance. you need to find out who the manufacturer of the drugs are and contact them directly. I send you good thoughts and hope everything works out.

There is a difference between the state aid plan and the welfare medical plan (at least in our state). I would also try calling your county and see if they have medical help. Chances are someone at your doctor's office can point you in the right direction too.

Did you ask the case manager at the hospital for guidance? Usually, they have a wealth of knowledge with this stuff since they deal with it daily.

What about adult chip? I think I saw you live in PA (not sure why I think this). I know we have an adult program. Private BCBS plans will cost about $70 per month if you take a deductible. Not sure if a pre-existing clause will kick in or not.

My first stop would be the hospital. THere may be other programs available.

Good luck and I hope you feel better.

I have a private BCBS plan with a $5000 deductible. I pay $700 a month. When I took on the plan, they went back through my records for seven years and put riders on my policy to not cover anything that was related to my past seven year medical history. I don't think a private plan will help the OP at this point.

OP, I am so sorry to hear you are going through this. :grouphug:

Is it a privately operated hosptial, or a "county/regional" hospital? Often there are programs in place at county hosptials for financial assistance, and can sometimes pay the entire hospital bill. A county/regional hospital should have someone that can discuss options with you. Your main concern now should be a healthy recovery.

:hug: Hugs and my best get well thoughts are with you.

Mike I am so sorry to hear about this, my prayers are with you.
I am in PA and with my husbands job loss, at 61 we purchased from Blue Cross PA "SPecial Care" as soon as we verified the income he was covered. I think it is about $130 a month. There is no deductable, just see the doctors in the network which is excellent. The earning amount is very fair.....
It does not cover scripts BUT, some pharmacy companies have paper work for doctors to fill in.

Check for the offset of what meds and medical you pay, with health bills you may get some coverage from dept. welfare. If you are not working and unable to work there are various types of medical cards for PA. Check into food stamps, and heat assistance all online you can file. You can get a medical paper at the welfare office or mailed for a doctor to fill in inability to work and have different qualifying levels.

Also, fill out for Soc Sec disability. There are several diagx that immediatly awarded. Go online start the application. ssa.gov

Our friends wife just had a heart attack over the holiday and they are without insurance too. Very frustrating, he lost his job same place my husband did. I had him check with the patient advocate to apply for some assistance.

My prayers are with you, I can imagine how concerned your family is.
