Sick Because of MOLD ?

Hi. Has anyone got sick because of found mold in your home? What were your first symptoms? We have had two floods here this summer and now have found MOLD Now I have started to get a cold like symptoms or not?

When we first moved to NC, we stayed in an old apartment and were always sick (cold-like symptoms). We thought it was because my oldest son just entered Kindergarten and was bringing home every virus.

Then we went to Disney for a week and everyone got healthy. When we returned to the apartment, sick again.

We always thought it was due to mold.

I'm certainly no expert but it is my understanding that most of the mold "scare" was just that, a scare and that there is not a lot of sound evidence to back up that every type of mold found is deadly and one must vacate their home.

It's happened twice to me. Each sickness was *normal*, it was just how many times I was getting sick. And how long it took to get over each sickness.

In both cases with me, I found it as I was moving already, so I don't know if just cleaning it out would have helped. But moving to somewhere else surely DID work, each time.

I am allergic to mold. First symptom for me is a searing migraine like someone stuck a sword straight into my skull. This is upon entering a place that has a lot of mold.

My face can swell and my eyes are about swollen shut.

I will also have a never ending headache and my sinuses go nuts.

I have about half of these symptoms from the mold outside.

I did do allergy shots for 6 yrs and it is more managable. I used to be able to not even get out of bed.

So yes, you can get sick from mold.

We found mold in an old house we rented, once we moved out. The whole time we lived there my son had asthma problems. Once we moved into our new home, the asthma never bothered him again. I really believe the mold was the problem.

When I lived in NH I never had a cold. Can't even remember the last time I had one.
I moved down to FL in March and I am always sick. Sniffles, headaches, cough, constant crap coming up, sinus issues. The apartment we live in had extensive renovations due to mold problems. We didn't know about this until after we moved into the complex. Our neighbor next door moved out last month and he said when he moved his headboard he found mold. They had to go in and do things to the place. It still isn't rented.

Now I can't say for sure that it's mold, it could be allergies, although I never dealt with allergies up north.

My sister and her family - also in Ontario- suffered for years with colds, lethargy, headaches. They recently found mold in their home and had it remediated. They've been healthy ever since.

I had constant ear infections, then a perforated eardrum. My son ONLY got sick during the weekends, much milder symptoms than mine but he was lethargic and had the symptoms of a cold.

The worse part is one of my cats lost nearly ALL of his hair!!

At the time we were subletting a friend's condo while he worked for a year in California. One day my bf noticed that there was a black circle in the ceiling of the kitchen.

Upon inspection we found out that there was a leak under the tub upstairs in my son's bathroom. There was black mold in the entire floor of the bathroom. A NIGHTMARE!!!

I always start by getting a headache, and then it turns into a cold/allergy symptoms. Running nose, head congestions, etc.

Right now, my SDS and his DW and 3DCs are all living at her moms due to mold in their house. The kids had been sick for a while and now are doing better. They have a company cleaning out thier house and have been told they have to disinfect everything in the house before using it including clothes. Right now,they are tearing out all the walls and floors. The bill so far is over $7000.
