Sick baby - please help *New Update*

Our DS had this problem a couple of years ago and in the end we had to take him to the hospital, it was the rotavirus. If you wait until her eyes are dark or sunk in you're behind in treating this virus. (not saying that this is what she has) Our DS stayed in the hospital over night and took 3 bags of IV fluids, after the second one he started coming around and the 3rd was for good measure.
I know how advice is but take it and don’t wait for a call from a doctor if you even suspect that your DD in at this stage.
We’ll say a payer for her and you.

Hi Sarah; here's a hug for you and DD. I hope you guys are in the ER since you haven't written back in a little while. I'm with other posters; I wouldn't wait either. I hope she is feeling better soon. Hang in there.

Thinking of you guys. I hope she's okay! (Sounds like you need to start looking for a new pediatrician. )

I'm getting nervous because she has not had anything all day and is rather lathargic.

Sarah

Sarah, I have no medical training but I do have 3 kids.

The lethargy frightens me. Bring her to the ER. What do you have to lose??

Any time your question is "SHould I go to the ER?" the answer is YES!

Understand this completely. We were in almost the same situation last weekend. Hope you are at ER now. vomiting and loose stools are one thing but combined lethargy that's when it get scary. I am saying an extra prayer tonight for you guys. ER's are scary place for little ones.

I hope she is doing better now. If not, have you taken her to the ER yet? At that young age it is really easy to get dehydrated. Praying all is well.

I am thinking of you tonight & am anxious to hear if everything is OK.

Last winter I got really sick like you are describing & ended up having to go in to the ER...it was the best thing I could have odne. An IV is never pleasant, but it made me feel human again!

Please let us know how your DD is doing!

:grouphug:

In my experience I've never regretted going to ER/Urgent care, but I have regretted not going sooner. Hope everything is ok. Lethargy (true lethargy, not just "not feeling good") is not a good symptom.

Hello all, thank you soooo much for all the thoughts and good words. :goodvibes We took her into the ER last night around 7pm or so after her 2 teaspoons of pedialite came right back up, and after sitting in the waiting room forever, we finally were taken into a pedi room. We just sat there forever too, so we decided to ask the nurse for some pedialite and apple juice since no one was seeing us. We gave it to her 1 teaspoon at a time, every 5 minutes, and she kept it down. They kept threatening the dreaded IV, but since she did so well with the liquids, they let us go home!!! We got home just after midnight, and she slept through till 6.30 this morning. So at 6.30 I started giving her just over 1 teaspoon every five minutes at a time, and now I gave her a 1/4 of a bottle which she drank right now. She is playing and seems pretty good, though I'm not going to give her any food yet.
So thank you all of your thoughts and concerns, I hated having to go through this with my little angel, but it seems like every mommy has to go through it at least once!

We are so glad to hear that she is doing better. :cheer2: :dance3:
I was up until 1am this morning thinking about her and checking the board just to see if everything was ok.
A wait of any kind can seem like forever in the ER. I will tell you that if she had to have the dreaded IV she would have been alright. For some reason it is always worse on us parents then it is with our children. I kow ours didn't seem to mind when he had to have one and he was just two years old at the time. By morning he was walking around and pushing his IV stand everywhere he went. You couldn't keep him still for nothing.

May God Bless!

So glad she is feeling better today! I would keep pushing the liquids, but I wouldn't rush the food. DD5 started with the virus last Monday, and she just got her appetite back yesterday. She didn't eat more than a few bites of food at a time all week. Nothing tasted good to her until yesterday.

I'm glad everything worked out. Sorry you had to sit in the ER- that does suck !! Push liquids, and don't worry about the foods.
And yes, every mother goes thru it, and some more than once :(

I'm so glad to hear that she is doing better today!!! I have been in your shoes a few times and it really stinks big time. I agree with everyone else, just push the fluids today, if you push food too soon, she might start barfing again. Glad shes better!!!

If she is still lethargic after a long while as in a few days I would be concerned. Not to say your child has this but a few years ago I thought my then 21 month old had the flu. She was drinking like crazy, peeing alot, vomitting, and more & more lethargic as the days went on & sleeping constantly. One night she had labored breathing which my hubby noticed and we took her to the ER. What I didn know was I was about to be in the shock of my life. She was diagnosed rather quickly with Type 1 Diabetes and almost in a coma & near death. Never thought in a million years she would get anything like that when the whole time I thought it was the flu. just be sure to not let it go too long and if you feel in your gut something isnt right please take her to the doctor because you just never know.

Oh I'm so relieved to hear she is feeling much better. You are probably exhausted and sleep deprived but at least she is playing. :goodvibes

Glad everything turned out OK...keep an eye on her & give her a gentle hug for me. I have a DD and nothing is scarier than when they are really sick. Can't wait to hear that she's back to her old self! :)

:thumbsup2

Thanks for that info, I'm so sorry that happened to your baby! However I think I can safely say that she has nothing near that. :goodvibes She really seems to be back to her old self, other than the fact that shes still not eating 100%, but thats because I'm not giving it to her, not because shes not asking for it! I think I will give her a normal dinner tonight, maybe a sandwich or something.
Thanks everyone again for all your thoughts, it really helped! :goodvibes :goodvibes :goodvibes

I just wanted to throw it out there because these days you never know as some things can mask serious problem as did in my case.
