We're leaving in three days and just found out my DF is sick with a cold. He's on blood pressure medicine so he's very limited in what he can take. Any suggestions for fast relief???

The doctor could give him something. Years ago when I was on blood pressure medicine and got sick, my doctor prescribed something. I think there are some over the counter stuff that you can take, but it's hard to find because not all places would carry it. But the doctor would be the best place. Maybe he can call the office and they can give him some advice.

I suffer from high blood pressure and take medications to control it. When I have a cold I take coricidin for people who have high blood pressure. It releives my cold symptoms and doesn't effect my blood pressure.

I also have high blood pressure and my doctor told me to take Coricidin HBP. I would call the doctor and see what they think.

Hope he feels better soon!!!

Take Zicam!

It's really expensive. About $11 for 25 applications, but well worth it. It is completely homeopathic, so it shouldn't be a problem with the heart medication. It's actually a form of zinc that you smear all over the inside of your nose, and it lessens the severity and duration of the cold symptoms.

Also, LOTS of vitamin C and echinacea to boost the immune system.

Good luck!

Tell your friend to call their doctor. Many times Sudafed or Robitussin is okay once or twice a day for a short period of time. Of course this is saying the BP is currently under control w/ the meds. However, definetly check w/ the doctor first. Each case is different. I'm mildly hypertensive and take a really low dose of med to keep it under control. Because I'm really not that bad-- I was told for me, personally, it's okay to take regular OTC meds for colds and such.

If your friend has High BP - DO NOT TAKE SUDAFED!!! - It really spikes BP and is dangerous for anyone with High BP even if they are on medication!!

I would check the ingredients carefully of any homeopathic med - since a lot of themn contain things like "willowbark" - which will also spike BP, and cohosh (sp?) - another BP spiker.

Ok now that I've warned you, here's what I did. Last XMAS at WDW, I got very sick - MAJOR flu, the whole bit and I couldn't get my head clear enough toeven hold it up. Plus I was sneezing and coughing. You know, the whole shebang. I knew that if I could clear my head and sinuses I would be fine.

I was told by the docs it would be at least 10 days before I would feel better - I had been in bed 2 and was miserable. This is what I did, it works, it worked for my dad who has high BP and my brother as well. If there is an Outback steakhouse near you, get some of their horseradish - they do something to it that makes it really hot but palatable. Get a couple of juicy pink grapefruits. Cut the grapefruits in half or in quarters and wipe the horseradish over the tops of the grapefruit - like butter on bread. Eat the grapefruit completely. Eat half a grapefruit every 2 hours - you'll be up the next day and feel great!

OK are you pulling my leg - grapefruit and Outback horseradish?????? Now I am just getting the normal cold sympthoms and I am on High Blood Pressue Meds.....I also leave for a cruise in 2 days.......nervous but do I really listen to you? I hate grapefruit but love Outback!! LOL I also do not want to be sick on a cruise nor in foreign ports. What should I do?:bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce:

For anyone who is sick and on Medicine whether it be for your blood pressure, your thyroid, GI system, anything... ask your doctor. Especially if you are going to be out of town. They are the ones that know your medical history and they are the ones qualified to answer what will or won't interact w/ your condition and meds. What works for one person isn't okay for the next. I personally can take Sudafed when I'm sick-- I work for my doctor and the first time she had me try it she monitored my BP's 3x per day x3 days-- I was okay. But that doesn't mean Joe Schmoo can do the same thing. As for Grapefruit and Horseradish--- well you cleared the sinuses but bring on the Pepto -- that makes me nausea just thinking of it.
