Shwarma at Marrakesh...authentic?

Hi. I have a really oddball question. I was in Kuwait before the Persian Gulf War...on vacation believe it or not.....so we are talking 1990 ish......I lived on Schwarma's (spelling?) these lamb sandwiches in this soft bread. I have had one in Germany a few years later....def. NOT the ones I remember from Kuwait. I am looking for the ones that would be like the ones from Kuwait...after all of these years, I still remember them...that is how awesome they are. Can anyone describe the ones at Restaurant Marrakesh or tell me if they would be the same ones as in Kuwait/Persian Gulf Area? Odd question, I know, but if they are the same ones I would get a hopper pass just to go into Epcot and get a few of those every day! Fabulous......any info. would be appreciated. TYIA :goodvibes

I have not had that particular dish, but I found in general the food at Marrakesh to not be as authentic as local, independently owned Morrocan restaurants that I frequent. I was very disappointed, to be frank.

I don't know if this helps!

We thought the shwarma platter was outstanding. The bread is fairly soft but firm, not mushy. You can get lamb, chicken, or a combination of the two. It was by far the best we've had anywhere. There was so much food on the plate, we shared and had plenty to eat. We'll be in WDW in Sept and can't wait to have our shwarma fix!

It would tough to say if they are like the ones you had in Kuwait (kind of like asking if pizza is the same in Orlando that is is Kansas City.) Likely nothing you will ever find will meet the expectations that you have simply because everyone makes things differently. For instance, there is a local restaurant that I go to that makes the BEST Vietnamese Pho. I know that others will not likely make it as well but I still try it at different places.

With that said, my DH and I LOVE the shwarma platter at Tangerine Cafe. It is one of our must do's every trip.

well Kuwait and Morocco are not quite the same place anyway, ya know? So authentic or not I wouldn't expect the same exact food preparation even if it goes by the same name. Borrowing that pizza example - Chicago pizza & New York pizza...same food name but different prep.

We really enjoyed the shawarma at Tangierine Cafe...click on Sept 2009 dining review link below in my signature -- Post #30 has a picture of the shawarma plate.

If the Marakesh is any gauge of the authenticity of the food, I'd say NOT. I was expecting spicy lamb, and got very bland Yuck! Of all the Disney meals I've had, that is the one place I'd not go back to.

I would agree that Restaurant Marrakesh is horrible. However, Tangerine Cafe (the CS in Morocco) is probably our favorite CS restaurant in all of the parks!!! It is amazing that those 2 restaurants are completely different in the quality and taste of their food!!!

My husband of 32 years, who is originally from Iran (Persian Gulf Area), and I have eaten at Marrakesh once and were not impressed. However, we do eat at the Tangierine Cafe at least twice per visit. We order the pita bread with our shawarma platters instead of the bread they usually serve. He LOVES it!
