I'm having a hard time finding this info on the boards so I thought I'd start a new post. (the ones I'm finding are years old)

Do any of the hotels near DL (but not necessarily within short walking distance) have free shuttles that run to DL?

and...

I just signed up for AAA. What kind of places can I use this for a discount in and around DL? (restaurants?) Do those with AAA find that it's still cheaper to use expedia, LMT, etc, to book a hotel rather than through AAA?

Thanks a bunch!!

Yes, some do offer free shuttles. I know that Hyatt Regency has one that also goes to other hotels south of the parks. We used is a few years ago, and I was not impressed. The fact that we had 2 or 3 additional stops meant it took 20 minutes or more on the bus and we often waited 5-10 minutes for it to arrive. Having since stayed at hotels that were walking distance, I don't think I would want to do this again.

The Candy Cane Inn also offers a free shuttle, even though it's walking distance. I have not stayed there, but from what I've read it's much more reliable that the Hyatt shuttle.

I booked through AAA and found that with the card I get from them for this trip, I get a discount on Character dining, 20% off of tours, kids' eat free at the ESPN and Rainforest Cafe, and the Toon Town Early Entrance. I don't get those with just my AAA Membership card. You may want to find out from your AAA agent if you can get any of that by just buying your Park Hoppers with them.

Candy Cane Inn has a great shuttle -- friendly drivers, clean, and (most important) reliably on time. The CCI is walking distance to the parks, but the shuttle definitely comes in handy. Also, the Sheraton Anaheim has a private shuttle. These are buses, so seating is generous. They run on time, too.

We don't book through AAA all the time, but we do always check for the AAA rate when we book a hotel ourselves. Sometimes the rates are really low and sometimes the perks (like free hotel parking) are really good.

Request a Tour Book for Southern California & Los Angeles and maps. AAA will send them to you for free or you can pick them up at your local AAA office. The Tour Books are great resources. The books list hotels, restaurants, and other attractions that they've rated and let you know when there is a discount. You can also check out discounts online.

Always ask if there is a discount available. We have a list (AAA, Costco, Entertainment book, etc.) that we always as about whenever making a reservation. When you book through AAA, you can receive other perks.

Have a great trip!
