Do the shuttles that are ran by hotels like the candy cane inn offer significantly less walking than if you stayed at a close hotel like BWPPI and walked to the park? I've never been to DL before so no idea about walking distances and shuttle drop offs and that sort of thing.

If you have not yet seen this thread, check out the hotel links for distance info - "HydroGuy's Hotel Rule" www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1199862

I haven't stayed at the CCI - lots of others around here have. They seem to have a very reliable shuttle which is essential in my mind if you want to depend on shuttles. Plus, it is not too far a hike to walk to CCI if you must.

If you stay at the Harbor hotels, of which BWPPI is the closest but there are others almost as close - you will have no need to depend on shuttles at all.

Other hotels offer shuttles, and from what I read they are a mixed bag as far as reliability.

Not sure if you are a WDW vet, but I advise all WDW vets not to bring their WDW thinking to DLR - at least in this area. WDW thinking includes acceptance of waiting for transportation and shuttles, or driving your car to the parks. Even staying a mile away from DLR seems to be OK with some WDW vets.

If you do this you give up one of the huge advantages DLR has over WDW - nearby walking distance hotels - and also burn up time waiting for transportation. Some people respond that they used ART or some hotel shuttle and it worked out great. But for every one of those reports there is another about lots of wasted time waiting for transportation.

Again, CCI seems to have built a good reputation here, but I do not know of any others who have that reputation.

It really depends on the hotel. But in general everything at DL is close by! The walk from the candy cane is less then 15 minutes, probably closer to 10. Its really not bad, but after a long day in the park the shuttle is wonderful.

Here are some things to better answer the question: This is the arial map of the park and good neighbor hotels http://www.wdwinfo.com/photopost/data/556/11450dlgoodneighbormap1.jpg (its from the sticky at the top of this page). If you look on the right side, mid way down you'll see the tropicana and the best western PPI- to the left of them you'll see 3 sort of round yellowish green circles in the parking area- those are the shuttle drop off areas for ART and the candy cane. So, its not that much further from the drop off area to the hotels near the cross walk. A little to the left of the drop off "circles" you can see the entranace to the two parks.

This article at mouseplant has some really good info on exact walking distances http://www.mouseplanet.com/articles.php?art=mm060329as for various hotels.

Having stayed at both of those hotels, I will say that it would be faster to walk than to take the shuttle. Even though the shuttle at CCI is on time and great, you have to plan your time around the shuttle. We also had a stroller, so it took a while to take that down as well and put it on the shuttle. If you are looking for convience, I would stay close and just walk across the street.

Just back from WDW and Port Orleans resort, and I swear the walk from our room to get a cup a joe, was longer than the walk from our Harbor Blvd. hotel (Carousel Inn) to the main entrance to DL!!!

DL is sooooooo differant than WDW! We like DL much better than MK and I think CA is a cool park, kind of a combo of Epcot and MGM?!?!

Have fun and don't worry about walking. WDW is huge, tons of walking!! DL is compact, some walking and I think much more fun!! JMHO!

:surfweb: Thanks for the info. we'll be there in June !!! and we are staying at the Candy Cane Inn:hippie:
