Shuttle vs. in-terminal rental car location @MCO

We've only rented in-terminal at MCO. That was pretty quick and easy. The rates from the shuttle rental locations seem to be cheaper. But how big of a hassle (time, etc.) is it to get to/from the shuttle location? Can someone please fill me in?

I am looking for the same answer.
I am flying into Orlando but a friend that lives in Florida is picking me up a few days before we leave and I will be flying out of Tampa. I thought I would rent a car off ground so I do not have to drive all the way back up to the airport... and the cars are cheaper off airport grounds.
I looked into MEARS which was $20.00 one way... There are 2 of us, so $40.00. Then I was looking into a private car which was around $50.00 for the two of us.
It would still be cheaper for me to pay for transportation to a rental car place out of the airport than to rent at the airport.
Does anyone know of a cheaper shuttle than MEARS? or any codes? or a better transportation service?
Or if anyone is landing at the airport on October 2nd at 5:35ish and wants to save on a limo or something, I am game it may work out cheaper.

Check rates at Hertz and Advantage (owned by Hertz - used to be simply wheelz). 5 minute shuttle ride and good service if the rates are competitive.

Hertz and Thrifty are both located on SR 436 about 2 miles north of the airport. Very convenient and in most cases there are no drop charges to rent in Orlando and drop at Tampa.

I believe that information is out of date--Thrifty is now listed as onsite. I haven't personally seen it, but others have.
