Shuttle Launch Tomorrow 12/6/07

Atlantis is scheduled to launch tomorrow afternoon at 4:30. I will be out on deck on the Disney Wonder waiting to sail Has anyone here seen a launch from Port Canaveral? Is it too far away for a decent shot of the shuttle? I will have my 30D with me of course (even though I dreamt the other night that I forgot it ) and the longest lens I have is the 100-400 which I wasn't actually planning on bringing, but I could ... any opinions?

You should have a great view from the Wonder.
What a way to start a trip! Very cool!

You should have a great view of the launch. You can see the vehicle assembly building clearly so it should be very easy to spot the shuttle. When I was over watching the air show at KSC I could see the Disney ship in port and the launch pad so you should have no problems.

I saw a launch in the '80s.

We knew someone who worked there and was able to get us access to a prime viewing spot. I think we were about three miles away maybe closer.

The flames from those rockets must have been 3-5 times longer than the shuttle. The roar was unbelievable. You could feel it on your chest. And it moves from the get go.

I don't remember if it was 200 miles down range and 60 miles up or vise versa,
but you could still see it and hear it roaring.

since it's going off at 4:30 this might not apply as much but we were at cocoa beach for the last "little" rocket that went up( forget what it was doing, something with a satellite maybe) and i used my 28-135 lens...should have taken my tripod for sure since i got lots of squiggles....it was at 9 pm though . we were probably a 15 min drive from ksc and had a good view and the ships are much closer...don't think you could miss it actually i had no idea what to expect but i would use a tripod and my longest lens if i could do it over. it lasted longer than i thought as well, probably maybe 5 mins from start to finish so make sure you have enough space on your card and use continuous if you have one. and stand right next to the rail so you can push any "heads" over it if you need to...they can swim to the dock

right here was where man with giant head decided he could see better if he stood in front of me so by the time i called him an idiot under my breath, moved and refocused it was pretty far up

Forget about the shuttle pics. Check out those St. Maarten shots! Mental note, go there by boat instead of flying.

I just noticed on the NASA website that the launch is now delayed until Saturday afternoon, weather permitting. We're going to be getting ready for the sailaway party on Royal Caribbean in Port Everglades Saturday afternoon.Is there any chance of us seeing a glimpse of the launch that far south?

Yes! I can see it from N. Miami Beach if it's a clear day.
I'll be in Orlando on Saturday, so excited it was delayed.

Shuttle launch has been postponed until January...

Sure would have been cool to see it from the deck of the Disney Wonder...they were going to delay the sailing and everything...the cruise was great though...Castaway Cay is the best!
