For those who live in FL, in general, how far to the west can you see the shuttle after it launches? It is supposed to take off at 5:40 am tomorrow and we are on vacation on Sanibel. I know we won't see the actual launch, but will we be able to see it as it's leaving Florida's airspace? I was told we will probably hear the sonic boom, but the person was unsure if we'd see the shuttle in the sky. Just wondering if it's worth waking up that early.

I guess it depends which way it flies. Whenever we've seen it, it flies East out over the Atlantic. Hopefully, someone will have more info. :)

I can see it very well in Orlando. Since it is a night launch, you will have a better chance of seeing it unless it is cloudy. By the way, they are saying the launch will be at 5:20 on the news here.

We're west of center and we can see it pretty well if there aren't too many clouds. A friend who lives about 10 miles from the west coast says they can usually see it from there.

I peaked at the clock this morning and decided to stay in bed. There willl be others.
