Hi We will be at WDW from 04/08 to 25/08 and there is currently a shuttle launch planned for 06/08, we would love to witness this as we're from the UK and it may be a once in a lifetime chance!

Does anyone know what the likely time of day or night the launch would be? And as August is likely to be stormy is there a strong likelyhood of the mission being delayed or scratched?

Thank you :thumbsup2

have a look http://www.nasa.gov/missions/highlights/schedule.html for info
.sometimes they are postponed and this can happen a few times. fingers crossed the august one isn't

I am hoping for a day or 2 delay. We land on the 6th but touchdown is Tampa airport at 8:42pm so anytime 7th or after for me.
Someone posted a few weeks ago it was scheduled to be a day launch but no idea how he knew. I would love to see night launch although iI would take another day launch.
We will drive over to Titusville to here again http://www.titusville.com/Page.asp?NavID=207

That space park in Titusville seems to be one of the best/most popular places to view a launch.

Do you know if it is free entry?

How busy does it get?

How many hours early would you advise getting there?

Has anyone had tickets for Kennedy space center for a launch? Is this worth the extra hassle (traffic/crowds etc) and what happens if the launch is postponed?

Sorry for so many questions and thank you in advance :thumbsup2

Yes its free. We arrived about 2 hours to launch, they were just opening a large field 2 mins walk away with free parking, free restrooms, great atmosphere and very friendly locals no hesitation going there again. Few stalls selling food and memorabilia, ice cream etc.
It was busy at Titusville but not too bad, adds to the atmosphere, a lot of clapping and cheering when its launched.
We were very lucky no traffic problems either way, others complain about traffic. Not sure of directions I followed sat nav.
Can'y help with seeing from Kennedy, I would't pay to see it go.

The launch was scrubbed until the evening of Sunday 15 March. It's so exciting - I'll never forget the time we saw that beautiful gleaming flame rise up!

we saw from titusville as well last feb and it was great so def try and see it

We watched one 2 years ago in August, we saw it from the balcony of our hotel, you could see it surprisingly clearly :goodvibes

We have been going for 20 years and trying to see a launch, they have ALWAYS been postponed, maybe we are unlucky but we havbe even been due to see a postponed one and it has been postponed again,

GOOD LUCK, hope you get to see it.

We had tickets to watch from the space centre 2 years ago. There was a great atmosphere and a huge screen to watch it on. It was amazing and I am really glad we got to go but I was a little disappointed because you don't get to see the actual lift-off and it takes a few seconds to get above the tree line before you can actually see the rocket. I would have loved tickets to the causeway but they generally sell out within a few minutes of going on sale.
Whatever tickets you buy they are mission specific and I think you can use them for the new date if you are still there but there might be some restrictions if you already went in to KSC(?)
If I remember right, we had to be at KSC at least 4 hours before the scheduled launch time(could have been more than that). Traffic was great going, heavy coming back but not as bad as I had envisaged.

If I was to do it again I think I would go to Titusville
