To clarify a little... The following type of pictures will have borders (based on three cruises):
* Photos with characters (except formals or with backdrops)
* Photos taken at the restaurants
* Photos taken with the Captain
* Photos taken at
Castaway Cay at the beach
* Embarkation photo
The following will not have borders but just the
DCL logo
* Photos with a backdrop
* Formal photos with characters
* Photos at CC at the back of the ship
On our first trip in August 2012, we purchased a length of cruise CD and paid the additional $50 for all printed. A couple of the printed ones didn't make the CD, and some of the pictures on the CD did not include a border - these were pictures taken by Shutters that did not came out good or someone moved. Instead of being deleted, they included them on the CD.
On our last two cruises, we opted for the 10 picture digital package. We got the CD with all the pictures on them same as the length of cruise. The difference is that you can only unlock up to 10 pictures instead of all of them. Only issue is that the thumbnail is small and has copyright information on top of it to prevent you from printing it. But makes it hard to see the details. That said, the pictures taken by shutters are vastly superior than those taken by Photopass CMs at the parks and well worth it.
If you have any problems, the company is very good at helping with issues. On our second trip, for some reason, we could not unlock a couple of pictures we wanted. They helped us troubleshoot the problem and ended up giving us some extra for our trouble even after they solved the problem. We had no issues with the first or third CD.
So take all the pictures you want... Towards the end, look at the printed pictures and get an idea of which ones you may want. If more than 10 or 20, you'd be better off with the CD. If you do go for the whole CD and look at printing them anyway, consider that 8x10 will cost you over a dollar even on the cheap side, so you'd probably be better of buying the prints.
But in any case, always check that the printed pictures show up on the display computers, specially for those taken at CC or somewhere they didn't scan your card and instead used face recognition. This way, you'll be sure they'll be on the CD. Order the CD the last night...
