I am so utterly impressed with what we've purchased from Shutterfly. I had read that they and Kodak were far better than the rest, but I didn't realize how much Shutterfly was even better than Kodak.

We purchased a photobook. We were actually going to purchase one from Kodak, because my father's wife recently got one from Kodak for her Italy pictures. However, after I went through all the work of building the photobook on Kodak's website, and decided just to compare it with what I could create on Shutterfly's website. There just seemed to be more choices, and things just seemed to fit together better using the layouts available through Shutterfly.

Well we received the photobook (in just two business days!) and it is incredible. It looks like a professionally designed and produced book -- like a textbook for a history class, except a lot more fun-looking. (The book is our photos from our trip to Egypt.) It is so much better quality than the comparable offering from Kodak, and I'm blown away that they only charge $28 for something like that. What an incredible value.

My co-workers were also impressed. A few noted how great it would be to put together a yearbook of child photos and make that their holiday gift to their parents. What a great idea!

Shutterfly gets a big :thumbsup2 from me!!!

I ordered some from snapfish for Mother's Day for the grandmas. I love them. I am thinking about making a book for the last Disney trip we went on. They books really are nice. I am going to have to check out Shutterfly's now too.

Hi,

I have been Shutterfly user for years. I love them. I have also tried Winkflash, Kodak, Snapfish and even all the places around here you can develop pictures. If I care about the quality I use Shutterfly.

Each year I do a calendar for my Mom. A snapbook for my DILs birthday party. I have done notecards as thank yous for my Kids birthdays. I love sharing the pictures. I love the frequent free enlargements. I also love the fact that I can just look at my pictures and pick out the ones I want in my PJs and a few days later they come!

A disney album is a possiblity!

I just ordered a photobook from Shutterfly also! :) I received it in two days and it was our Hilton Head vacation pictures. What size book did you get? I just did the softcover one, had about 26 pages and most had 3-6 on a page. I was a little surprised that it was a little smaller than I had thought, but all in all vas VERY pleased with the quality and the price! I worked really hard on arranging the pictures and text. I can't tell you how nice it was to get a finished project as well! :goodvibes I have started so many scrapbook albums and spent tons of money printing out pictures on our printer and never did a thing with them.

This was totally the way to go, I am just wondering how the hardcover or larger albums would be.

:)

I did a hardcover one, 25 pages, with one or two photos per page (so you could see the detail), though we had one page with nine photos on it. The hardcover photobooks are 8.75" x 11.25" while the softcover photobooks are 5.5” x 7.5” -- that would make a big difference I bet.

Okay, so your was was much larger, I think I was trying to use as many pictures as possible for this. Like I said, it is GREAT, but now I know!

Also, thanks for posting some ideas on what else to use the books for. I know my mom would LOVE a photobook of pictures of her and our son. What a great Mother's Day gift. I should start working on it now! Plus a Father's Day gift for my husband of pictures of Matt & Daddy and then ......... :) :)

Just a warning about MyPublisher.com. There was a thread on the scrapbooking board just before Christmas by Timon. She ordered a softcover one. She looked at it a couple of times before wrapping it up to give, & the binding was already coming apart & a few pages actually fell out. She has pictures showing this in her thread. http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=974673

She also ordered hardcover ones. Those were fine. http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1027065

ETA: Her book is of digital scrapbooking layouts she did in photoshop. Your pages in mypublisher will NOT have backgrounds & clipart.

My hairdresser showed me something similiar they made for a trip to Italy. Its a product called Epson Storyteller. http://www.epson.com/cgi-bin/Store/...pe=Overview&oid=-12741&category=Paper+&+Media

She bought it at Staples. It is software, a hardcover album, & photo paper. Whats unique is that each sheet of paper has a "peel & stick strip" that you stick into strips in the binding in the album.

The software allows you to place photos into layouts & add text just like the online companies. I was quite impressed with the job they did.

I would imagine though that you would want to have a REALLY good printer (& preferably an Epson printer with Epson ink) for REALLY good printing results. Otherwise, online ordering may be the way to go.

I really love doing photobooks! I used to do scrapbooking, but this is so much easier and a better use of my time and money. Shutterfly is always having sales so I wait - I did 3 books when they were 30 percent off!

I've done iPhoto books, and Kodak as well. I like them all, but Shutterfly is the only one with sales. But with all these choices, I gets lots of different looking books.

:)

Sounds nice. Bicker, is that$28 a cost over and above the picture costs, or the total cost, including pictures?

One thing to keep in mind about printing it yourself: Even if you have a great printer, what matters in the long-term is the quality of the ink, and that's why they say you're always better off having it done by a professional photo finisher like Shutterfly.

I did a photobook from Shutterfly last summer for our trip to Maui. They ruined my pictures. I will never use them again. I complained that the pictures were too dark, couldn't see the faces of the people in the pictures. They said it was my images that were the problem. I redid the album at Photoworks.com and those same images turned out just fine! I'll never use Shutterfly again, they wasted $60 of my money!

I have been happy with Shutterfly picture quality, too. I now order through them for work pictures, too.

Glad you enjoyed it!

Would you mind posting a picture or two of your book to share? :thanks:

I have enjoyed all the prodcuts I have ordered from Shutterfly and they have nice prices for just developing film and usually have numerous discounts you can apply. I ordered a little photobook for my husband at valentines using our last disney world trip pictures. He loves it and keeps it in his cargo pants pocket on his uniform and apparently is educating the iraqis about disney lol :goodvibes

The photos of what you get are pretty true on their website. For instance this was for my photobook:

I just took a look at the setup there, looks like the pictures price is included, and upwards of maybe 80 pictures or so. Looks nice.

It's $38 for twenty pages (as many photos as you care to fit on those pages... you put nine photos on one page, I think). Then there is an additional charge for each extra page.

ACK! They JUST went on sale. (Bummer... if I just waited a week.) $23.99 for the first twenty pages and then $0.80 per page for each additional page.

I've been using Shutterfly for years and love them! I've ordered calanders, snapshot books, photobooks, Christmas cards and just plain old prints. Their work is always outstanding. Twice I have contacted customer service about general questions I have had and they responded w/in a few hours. Did I say I like Shutterfly! If you can, wait for the sales. All of their products go on sale in regular cycles.

Thanks, bicker. And another question...I presume the pictures are simply printed on each page, the page itself being photo paper, in various colors and/or backgrounds?
