Shows too loud for 3 year old?

I read from another poster that her 3 year old thinks the shows are too loud although they didn't bother her when she was a baby. My 3 year old has never complained about anything being too loud. Should I be concerned about some of the shows? Or does it just depend on the child?

It's tough to be a bug scared the pants off my DS3. He still talks about it. The noise wasn't a factor -- it was the visuals that did him in. Definately will not be seeing that one for a while still.

I think it depends on the child and what show it is. My DD when she was younger was terrified of Bug Life and Little Mermaid. She is 5 and is just now comforable with Little Mermaid..but has to sit in the back.

I can't think of any shows offhand that were loud (some rides maybe, like Dinosaur for example). But then I am probably looking at it (or listening to it ) from an old guy's perspective. The various shows are great.

Oh, maybe Fantasmic!, that one is loud for sure, and maybe scary for a youngster.

My daughter was 2 when she slept through the Lion King show at AK, and this is probably one of the loudest shows I recall.

The dark is what she is afraid of. Peter Pan and Winnie the Pooh rides were scary for her due too the darkness, Little Mermaid show as well.

Different things for different kids.

Our DD turned 4 on our trip. Prior to the trip I thought of her as the bravest little girl. But she quickly became very scared of a lot of the rides and it was mainly because of 2 things. 1.) Darkness and 2.) loudness. My wife had a little clip on flashlight on her fanny bag and would use that for the dark parts of rides but we couldn't do anything for the loud noises. If we had earplugs she could have just closed her eyes to scary parts but you can't close your ears so she spent a lot of time with her head buries in my chest covering her ears. She would have been able to enjoy it more with earplugs. If I had it to do over againg I would go to Home depot hardware area or a sporting goods store and get a package of the foam disposable earplugs. They are cheap and don't weigh anything. I think you will be happy that you did it.

but in my son's case - he was the opposite of the above poster - he was fine with the dark but noise made him nuts - including the parade at several points - try something loud outside first - as a CM where the loudspeakers are and stand near one - its REALLY loud - if your child is fine with that - then try a show

My DD4 is uaually one of the bravest kids but some things did her in this last trip (6/15 - 23) For some reason she would NOT go see Muppet 3-D. She kept saying something about the pie, but I'm not sure if that was it. The show that really did her in was Tough to be a bug. There were a whole lot of little ones SCREAMING during the show. There is one part where Hopper (the grasshopper form A Bugs Life) comes down from the ceilling and it's dark and then lights flash and then these giant spiders come down. Poor DD was clinging to me and screaming her lungs out! I doubt we'll get her in there for a long, long time!

My children have definitely noticed noise levels on shows.
The ones that come to mind are Tarzan, any fireworks (MK or Illuminations especially). My 3 YO DD said yesterday that the fireworks were too loud. I told the girls to cover their ears. That works on fireworks but not shows.

The Tarzan show at AK is also very loud. It's like a mini rock concert and the volume seems to be very loud. The Tiki Room at is pretty loud too. Lots of thunder and explosion effects are a part of that show.

Some other potentionally frigtening shows include Little Mermaid at MGM (An appearence by Ursula the Seawitch, who is so large that practically fills up the whole stage, makes many kids squirm), It's Tough to Be A Bug (A frightening realistic animatronic Hopper from "A Bug's Life" as well as effects that make you think that you are being stung, swatted, and sprayed), and Fantasmic (Malificent, Jafar, the Evil Queen, and many other Disney Villains make appearences in this show that can frighten small children).

We found the shows generally LOUD and spent much time covering the ears of then DD1 and DD5. Ear plugs are a good idea as they are small and easy to carry.

There are two problems with noise in the shows. My 6 year old grand daughter actually wants to write or call someone at Disney to tell them her concerns. LOL

The first problem is the overall loudness in the shows. She says that it's SO loud, she can't hear it anymore....a good description from a child about how when noise goes beyond a certain level, it becomes distorted.

The second problem is the SUDDEN noise, meant to scare you.

Her biggest problem with that was in the Universe of Energy show. She watched the entire show, loved the movie, LOVED the dinosaurs....she was absorbing the information about energy and where it comes from.

But THEN, at the very END of the movie, they put in a HUGE SCARY Dinosaur ROAR!!!!!

The comments she made to us through her tears as we walked out went like this.

"I loved the whole thing and it was so interesting. But the big roar at the end scared away everything I learned."

She was really quite angry about it and wanted to call someone that night to tell them they had to STOP doing that to little kids.

The last time we went, my DD was 18 months old. I had been to disney at least 10 times but never with a child so I never paid attention to the loudness or scariness of attractions. When taking my DD, I realized how many things were ridiculously loud. She is a sensitive child, but there reallly is no need for things to be soooo loud. She is now 3.5 and still doesn't particularly like loud noises so we are bringing earplugs. I got the wax "putty buddies" which fit in the outer part of the ear. She didn't like the foam ones which fit in the ear.

When DS was three, he put his hands over his ears during the movies in World Showcase. This same kid took the earplugs out while he was watching Illuminations, so I think it's impossible to guess what'll bug them on each trip.
