We are considering a cruise on Majesty of the Seas. What are the main shows like on RCL? Mainly, are they family friendly? We will be with our then 12 year old. Thanks!

I was on a 12 night rccl cruise in 09. Out of the 12 nights they had one good show. Don't except them to be like Disney.

This isn't part of the main show but I liked their ice show

Just FYi....you do realize this is one of the oldest and smallest ships in their fleet? Not saying you won't have a good time but coming off Disney there will be a HUGE difference.

I was on the Anthem of the Seas for a 12 day cruise on March 7, 2016. The shows on that cruise where family friendly but I'm not sure your son that is 12 would like them very much. The "We Will Rock You" show is a tribute to Queen music and the music was great but story was lacking. One of the other show "The Gift" had fabulous props but the story was the worst and after it was over I thought to myself "WTH did I just watch?" which has never been the case with any of the Disney shows. Finally there was "Spectra's Cabaret" which I decided to skip based on the previous two shows I watch, however my friend said she liked it.

I had posted on a previous thread that one of several reasons I will most likely not sail on RCCL again was the shows. Don't get me wrong they where plenty of things to do on the Anthem of the Seas that I enjoyed very much that DCL doesn't even offer on any of their ships... yet.

When we sailed Allure in late 2013 I was thrilled with the live shows. Thrilled! So much variety paired with quality. High dive show, ice show, off-Broadway show (Chicago which I'd never seen & had LIVE music), Cirque-type production.... It was well-varied and great quality. I actually prefer the overall live entertainment that I experienced on Allure to any Disney cruise I've taken. ((mind you, I do not have small children))

I do think it depends on the ship & what it offers. Not hard to look that info up before choosing a sailing if the entertainment is a high priority to your cruise.

Happy sailing!

Thanks everyone!

I am aware that it's one of the smaller ships. We were looking for a cheap and easy way to test RCL as a family before we let our OBB possibly expire.

IMO, Majesty isn't a good ship to test the waters. Move to a voyager or freedom class. Majesty is going into dry dock soon for some much needed updates, but I'd still pick another ship for my first cruise with them.

If they have something called "City of Dreams" RUN the other direction!!! I suffered through that dreck on the Radiance last year because I was stuck in the middle of a row (will NOT be making that mistake if I decide to chance anything on the Brilliance this summer). It was quite honestly the worst thing I have seen - and I've seen a couple of stinker Broadway or off-Broadway shows that barely made their opening nights.

Granted, when the "cruise director" (never seeing her in uniform made the position less real/legit IMHO) said in her introduction "If you've been drinking, it will probably make sense" I should have scooted THEN. (Hint: If the "cruise director" says that before a show, RUN out of the theatre.)

The only way to really compare RCL to Disney is to go now lower than Freedom class IMO. The ships are great and the shows are excellent and family friendly. RCL uses live music for their shows, which I have always appreciated more than the track Disney uses. The smaller, lower cost, ships have smaller, lower cost, shows ... And it shows.

Think of it like the difference between seeing a Broadway quality show in a Broadway quality theater as compared to going to Vegas and watching a show at one of the smaller hotels just off the strip.

holy crow I just checked RCL and wow I could get an awesome suite heading to Europe for less than what I'm paying for concierge basic in Nassau, wow I need to look into RCL

If you want to test RCCL for a pretty low price, I would suggest Liberty of the Seas this fall out of Galveston. Prices are super reasonable and she's a Freedom class ship that just came out of dry dock. I was just pricing cruises for October 2017 and for our family of 4, in 2 connecting promenade view cabins, it's only $2500 for a 7 night Western Caribbean.

You do realize that RCL is the only cruise line with Broadway shows, right?
Granted not on all of their ships.. But don't judge an entire line by one outdated vessel :)

Disfam-- please please please look at another ship. You won't regret it.. And there are quite a few which won't cost you much more than the Majesty. Plus- a 12 year old would LOVE the newer amenities and activities!

Good luck and have a wonderful time! :)

Norwegian offers adaptations of Broadway shows onboard as well. For example, Breakaway has Rock of Ages.
