Shows Canned Too Soon

Yeah, I know it ran for several seasons, but two of them - the two immediately following Sorkin's exit - completely sucked, and it had just gotten to the point where it was an excellent show again when it got yanked off the schedule. With the roughly 1,243,999,210 "procedural" shows on television, was it really too much to ask to keep one drama that didn't involve either cops, a hospital, a plane crash, or a murderous suburbia?

Even though I'm a huge fan, I was ready for "West Wing" to go. IMHO, John Wells never quite understood what made that show so great. Fortunately, Aaron Sorkin will be back with "Studio 60 on Sunset Strip" in the fall. But it's another one of his shows that was canceled too soon in my opinion - "Sports Night".

Now and Again--Eric Close and Dennis Haysbert. Great show with a different story line...but CBS axed it. To my knowledge they never resolved the cliffhanger at the season finale.

Wonderfalls- Awesome show that in part due to fan movement got all of the episodes released on DVD thankfully. I still watch them...hilarious show.

I have to agree with Sportsnight and Freaks and Geeks....great shows! I was really mad about Eyes getting cancelled so soon :sad2:

Angel. :(

It didn't end right at all. I kept hoping for a movie to tie things up but it looks less and less likely.

The Reunion cancellation was seriously the worst decision in TV history. We don't even get to find out who the murderer was? For shame Fox, for shame! I've been boycotting Fox ever since, and it feels good.

Definitely Dark Angel. I wanted to do bad, bad things to Michael Weatherly.

Also, Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman. I think I was the only woman under 50 who watched that, though...

I hear that!! I was also so angry!! They could have at least had 1 more episode to let us know!! I remember the producer or someone said it would take to long and some characters haven't even come along yet to tell the story of the murderer. I don't care! They could have revealed the murderer with the characters that were already there!!!

The remake of Dark Shadows....this was about 10 years ago, but I still remember how disappointed I was when the show was cancelled.

I'm currently watching reruns of a great series called I'll Fly Away. Although this show had a pretty good run, it should have gone on longer.

Another oldie but goodie, HOT-L, Baltimore. Waaaay before its time, this show was out around the same time as All In The Family, Maude and others. Pretty risque stuff for the 70's :rotfl2:

I hate, hate, hate!! the fact that there's no Star Trek series on TV anymore!

Alien Nation. Super cast, I'm still not sure why they took that off.

Cadfael. This was on the PBS series Mystery and starred Sir Derek Jacobi. He played a Monk who was a detective too. Derek Jacobi is one of my all time favorite actors!

Another PBS series, Bramwell. This was about one of the first female English doctors. Superbly acted by Jemma Redgrave (yes, from THAT Redgrave family), the stories were amazing week after week.

But probably my favorite show that ended much too soon was a short lived Fox program called Strange Luck. Here's a link to one of the many websites that still talk about this great show.

Strange Luck

It's been 11 years since it was on and I still hope Fox will bring it back!

I totally agree with this. I really miss the West Wing.

Tru Calling. That was a good show and we never got any resolution because they never aired the final episode. Losers.

American Dreams (I really miss that show)
Home Front
Out of Practice
Sisters
Once and Again
Thirtysomething
St. Elsewhere

OMG! I can't believe I forgot to mention Police Squad. The funniest 6 episodes on TV EVER!!! :rotfl2: :lmao: :rotfl2: :rotfl: :lmao:

ETA, I just finished reading this thread and yes to My So Called Life.

:thumbsup2 :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2

ACK! One more.

MAD MOVIES! Lordy, those were the funniest things I think I've ever seen on TV. It was an old Nick at Night series. :rotfl:

Sports Night

I second that! I recently watched the 2 seasons on DVD--what a great show. I wonder how many of them will end up on Sorkin's new show?

Futurama
Dark Angel
Tru Calling

There is a reason for the pick of Nightstalker(remake) : blame a very bad crush on Stuart Townsend

Dead Like Me on ShowTime :furious:

They canned it after 2 seasons... so that was only 26 episodes or so.

So annoying, I dont know why they got rid of it.. there was so much the story could do still... they barely had time to even start the real meat of the show!

I <3 Mason, he made me laugh so much :)

Arrested Development, Futurama, Greg the Bunny, Undeclared - FOX, why do you torture me?

Another one I thoguht of... I think Futurama could have been stretched out a lot longer than it was. I loved the science nerdiness and comedy of the show :thumbsup2 It had a good 4.5 seasons but it wasn't enough for me!

Joan of Arcadia
Sports Night
State of Grace

I can't say I was sorry to see The West Wing go, and I was a strongly devoted fan. While the last season did finally show some better writing, it was still a shell of what it used to be. Plus, it focused so much on recurring character and newer, tertiary characters that it almost felt misleading to call it The West Wing anymore. I was glad to see it go, but horrified at the paltry sendoff it got. How does Will & Grace get a 2hr finale (for a 30 min show) but The West Wing only get a regular episode and no fanfare. I'm seriously miffed about that.
