I was just reading about showers. And i was wondering how you all did it. My mom is old fashion and doesnt think that i should be able to have a shower since we are getting married out of town. :confused3 But then the DF's mom thinks that we should so i am not sure what to think. Since most of the people that will attend the shower will not be going to the wedding. :rolleyes1 lol I think that if your going away it should be for the people you really want there. But what did you all do about inviting people to your shower? If you could give me any help that would be wonderful!
Thanks

I was the one that didn't think I should have a shower since we were getting married in Disney but no one agreed with me. We invited over 125 people to the wedding, knowing most of them wouldn't be able to come. We invited all the women to the shower. It was nice way for those that couldn't make the trip to have part in the special day. I was not involved in the planning though. It was a "surprise" shower

We are having a very casual drop in when I get back from Disney. I think my mom and sister are planning on inviting all of the women from this home reception.

We also had an at-home reception after our Disney wedding, so all the ladies who were invited to the wedding and/or at-home reception were invited to my showers. My aunt gave me one for my family and then my bridesmaids did one for friends. I was a little worried thinking that people who weren't invited to the wedding would be upset, but no one seemed to be offended. Plus, they already had their STDs for our at-home reception anyway.

Just make sure that everyone invited to the shower is invited to the wedding. Otherwise it seems like they are good enough friends to buy you presents but not good enough friends to be invited. I guess maybe it counts too if you invite them to a home reception after... not sure.

This was my situation...women who couldn't attend the wedding (and they knew by then) still attended the shower because they wanted to show support and love and be a part of the process. You'll get a few women who swear they are coming down for the wedding but later be unable to attend (or vice versa, no shower but will attend), but that's life...we take those chances when planning a destination wedding regardless...

I say invite all the women from your wedding invite list...

Don't invite anyone who isn't invited to the wedding! If they're invited to the wedding, but not coming, it's ok to invite them to the shower!

Since we're having an Escape we only have 18 guests so we're having an at-home reception and everyone invited to my shower was either invited to the wedding and/or the reception. That way they all feel like they're a part of our day (and we're not just trying to get gifts ;) )

Thank You so much for all the advice! We are planning on having a at home reception because DFs mom wants one to show us off and mine not so much lol She is very much old fashion or maybe trying to scare me off of a Disney Wedding but hey thats what I want :goodvibes I think our at home reception will just be a big cook out since we are doing a July Wedding.
