Showers at AKV?

Ok all you early AKV guests, care to settle a debate I had with my Guide last May. When he showed me the model rooms of AKV at SSR he proudly pointed out that the model room had no step to enter the shower and a ledge along the back wall that would serve as a seat (as well as place to put stuff).

He knows I can walk but can't manage steps of any kind. And he was certain all the AKV rooms would have showers like the model (i.e. no step, just level floor). Of course, I insisted he was wrong. All you step-walkers can't handle the flow of water near a stepless shower.

So which one of us was correct? Is there a lip on the shower or is it flat?

(If I win this, I think I get free ice cream from him in April.)

The showers in the Jambo house are bathtub showers, so, they have much more than a lip. The accessible rooms have roll in showers.

I wouldn't expect the retrofitted Jambo House villas to be identical to the models, however, I hope for every AKV owner that the models are nearly identical to the Kidani Village units.

The funny thing is if the Kidani showers are stepless then I can use any room. Well as long as I bring my own ladder for getting in that HIGH bed.

BTW, I'm referring to the showers in the 1bedrooms and up. The studio model has a tub.

As far as I know, the 1 bedrooms have the shower/tub combo as well.

The model you saw was for the villas in the new building (Kidani Village) which is under construction.

The only shower stalls in Jambo House are in the GVs and the roll-in showers in the HA rooms. The non-HA 1BR/2BRs in Jambo House have a combined deep whirlpool tub and shower.

And evidently, there is a one bedroom HA unit (as reported by someone on the boards) that doesn't have a whirlpool, only a shower. Very strange retrofit.

We stayed in a 1BR in December & it had a tub/shower combo. My mother had a heck of a time getting in (she needs knee replacement surgery).

Another concern of your might be getting into the bed in the master bedroom. It is really high. I shared it with my soon to be 5 year old & had to lift him onto it because he couldn't get up there on his own (he is fairly tall too).

Yes that is correct. The only master bathrooms in Jambo House that have both a tub and shower stall are the GVs. In all of the 1BR/2BR villas, the master bath has either a combined tub/shower or a roll-in shower (HA rooms).

The models are Kidani, under construction, not Jambo, the ones available now. The 1BR combined whirlpool shower is actually not easy to step into -- the outside wall of the tub is as high as your knees; the studio is more of a normal height tub but still a step. To get a walk-in shower you need to a get a handicap assessible room.

We stayed in a studio (Room 5401) Dec. 20-26...there was a regular tub w/ shower.

Great room, btw!!
