We are planning a trip to WDW next spring. My daughter (11yo) uses a power wheelchair for mobility. At home she uses a shower/toilet chair for personal care. On our last trip we drove and brought our equipment with us, but we want to fly this time to maximize our time at the park. She is unable to support herself sitting on the fold-down shower seats in the roll-in showers because she does not have the core or upper body strength. Does anyone one know if we can rent this type of device from a medical equipment in Orlando to use while we are on vacation?

my MIL used a manual wheelchair in the roll-in showers last year. we called ahead and front desk had one for her when we checked in and had it for the duration of our stay. would that be an option for you? she (MIL) does have core strength to hold her though.

A regular manual wheelchair shouldn't be used in the shower, (they will rust). Someone who is able to transfer might be able to use one to get to the shower and then transfer to the shower seat.

One company, Care Medical, does rent a little more specialized equipment.

We rented the shower chair that they call the "rolling Rehab Chair" from them one year. It was not totally successful for our daughter. Although it was similar to the shore chair she uses at home, hers tilts in space and the one we rented sat up straight. She really needs the tilt in space (or still least recline) since she tends to go into extension earn she is in the shower.

I don't know how big your daughter is, but they have some pediatric options that are different and might work if she is small. I have not checked on the sizes of the Rifton bath chair they have (they may only have the small size ones for children).
The largest largest size Rifton makes will work for an adult.

Care Medical also lists/shows a Rifton Blue Wave shower/commode chair on their website. Rifton no longer makes that model, so I am not sure if Care rents the old model or the new one.

Thanks so much for the links!!
I just browsed over the websites and it seems like we will be able to find something that works for sure. I was also impressed that they rent respiratory equipment (suction, cough assist) at Orlando Medical Rentals. I was assuming we would have to travel with those items, but it seems that we might be able to avoid lugging those through the airport!
