Does anyone know if I can take my shower chair as cargo and if I will be charged extra since it is medical equipment? My showerchair has small casters so it rolls into shower. I am flying Delta. Any ideas really appreciated! I also posted this in transportation, not sure where to post.

I do not know of any hotel that will not provide a shower chair on request.

And you would have to pack it in some manner so the legs will not get caught or hung up on any conveyor belts.

My shower chair was custom made for me with tilt back and size wise and I have rented a fully handicap house with roll in shower not a hotel.

No it doesnt, but I did find out through Delta that I wont be charged for taking mine:woohoo: I have to call the TSA to see how to package it, Delta gave me their number. They told me that medical equipment does not count towards items checked in. One thing less to worry about.:thumbsup2

Seriously consider not taking it, MANY times they have busted chairs sent via cargo. I know this is not as convenient nor independent but could you go with renting a shower chair instead? (and doing b&b alternatively) I would hate for your chair to get messed up and then not have it for months at home.

You will need to pack it in a box of some sort with lots of padding and FRAGILE on the box. Delta has always be good to me on my flights. If you were to send something like the shower chair without special packing then it would definitely come back to you in pieces.

I just stayed at the paradise pier hotel in disneyland and our room had a roll in shower with seats. Perhaps that house has the same type of set up ?

an option might be to check with the rental company or owner of the home you are renting and see if they can hold a package for you then pay (yes, more expensive, but less of a chance of damage) to have your shower chair fedex-ed there and back home. you could insure the shipment as well so that if anything did happen to it you would have some recourse. (that you might not have if it was a checked item on your flight.)

this would only work if you could function without the shower chair for a day or two while it was being sent back and forth.

good luck and enjoy your vacation.
