Shower Bench

Does anyone know if the resorts have the portable shower benches? I have some nerve damage from recent chemo treatment and it makes me a little unsteady in the shower. I bought a great little bench. It folds up for someone else to use the shower. It is hard for me to get dowwn into the tub for a bath, but that is an option.

I'm glad you ask because I had forgotten to check on that for our WDW trip. I have one that folds too but I'd rather not have to pack it if the resorts have them. We have a cruise next month & they promised one for me. DCL also said they have transfer benches if you have trouble climbing in the tub. I'd much rather use a bench instead of the roll-in showers that flood the floor...at least all the ones I have ever been in did. I may try to call the resort to ask.

I understand about the chemo...I haven't been the same after chemo 5 years ago. I already had a condition involving nerves before the chemo & it worsened after treatment.

All of the resorts have shower benches. As soon as you get into your room call Mousekeeping and they will send someone with one to your room.

Thanks from me too. Is there any need to call in advance to reserve one, or is the day of arrival Ok? I assume they have plenty. I'd hate to get there & find they were all being used.

Day of arrival should be fine.
From experience - before using it, check that all the screws are tight. We got one once that was wobbly. The screws loosen with time and I'm sure not everyone checks.

I agree. My daughter thought it would be best to take my own...which we do when we're driving. She said she wouldn't want to sit where someone's naked behind had been. I figure it's just as clean as the bottom of the tub but I always do feel the need to clean it. Thank's Sue for the advice about the screws.

Standing in the shower is especially hard after an exhausting day at the parks. Back in the days when I used to walk at WDW...the last time was 2002...I would be leaning on the walls trying to take a shower at the end of the day.

Are you using a scooter or walking at the parks? The 1st time we went after my chemo, I couldn't do all the walking, so my husband pushed me in a WC. We eventually bought a scooter after I tried one at the zoo & it's so much better. If you think you can walk most of the time, you could rent a WC if you get tired & just park it when you feel like walking. Enjoy your trip! We went soon after my chemo & it was just what I needed!

It all depends on which resort you are staying at and what type of room you have booked. Here are some of the things I have seen or used:

Small bathroom with toilet and tub with bars. No room to maneuver chair. Can get shower bench if requested.

Roll-in shower. Some have built-in, drop down benches, others you can have a bench delivered. (I just put a towel on the bench before I sit on it.)

You can also ask for a hand held shower head.

Make sure you ask for any benches/shower heads as soon as you check-in. It can take a while and the wrong thing might be delivered the first time.
