I'm sure I'm not the only visitor who is lost with the options for hiring cars in the USA... especially for those like us needing at least seating for 5. This probably means a 7 seater when luggage is allowed for :)

So if you have photos of inside and out of your car it would be great if you shared them. Details of how many in your party and if the car was big enough for the return journey with all the extras :goodvibes
Plus who you hired from :thumbsup2

Great idea! :thumbsup2
I never think to take photos of the car, but i will do this October

Our rental car for 2009:

Last August we had a Lincoln Navigator, which I think had 8 seats, albeit there was just the 2 of us! The boot space was huge and easily accomodated our two suitcases and 2 sets of golf clubs along with hand luggage. Reckon you could get 6 cases in quite easily.

Rented directly from Hertz at the ridiculous price of around £370 for 2 weeks, albeit can't get them for that at the moment - around £800/900.

Marks out of 10 for the car = 10
Marks out of 10 for parking = 3+

Like the rental car for 2009 Johnny :rotfl:

Drives better than it looks I understand....

Wow! I think me and my bf could fit in one of those seats and believe me we're not petite :rotfl:
I don't have any photos (they're easy to find on Google images though) but we hired a Dodge Caliber which is Dollar's economy model and it was great for us: 2 adults with 4 (!) suitcases. We had to put the seats down to fit all 4 cases in though so with kids it may be a bit of a squeeze!

As well as the photos this has sold it for me :thumbsup2
If you think you might use Hertz, be sure to join their free loyalty programme (think it's called Number 1 club), as you'll get 10% discount the first time you use them and then 5% thereafter (and for all the Quidco fans on the boards, I think they are one of the suppliers you can use through the Quidco site).

Unusually, for booking direct with a supplier I'm looking at a luxury car for our November trip and they're around £30 cheaper than everyone else (Airline Network, US rentacar etc), not sure how they compare on other car classes though.

love the 2009 upgrade Johnny. although I don't think it has aircon! :rotfl:

Thanks for the heads-up :thumbsup2

How many cases do think it would hold in the boot? We are going with 4 adults, baby & at least 6 cases (!) next year and I am trying to work out what car to get. It only needs to get us from MCO to CSR fully loaded. We are only planning one longish trip to KSC - would we fit comfortably?

Thanks

We've had a Durango in the past. With the third row of seats up, there's not much space left. The seats are armchair design but the console in the middle of the second row seats converts into a third, smaller seat, so there should be room for 4 adults and a baby seat. That will leave more than enough room for your luggage to and from the airport. For the rest of your time, you'll probably find it more comfortable to use the third row (which is identical to the second and can be used in one, two or three seat configurations).

We had booked a sub compact (we always go for the cheapest as there's only the 2 of us). We were asked if we wanted to upgrade to a small SUV, we said no, but we got it anyway without having to pay extra :thumbsup2
for what's I've noticed they don't even have the cheapest range of cars available at MCO so you always get at least 1 higher than the economy/sub compact.

last time we had a Kia Optima, which was very nice to drive and had a very large boot!

That can be true - sometimes you need a bit of luck but I know Dollar for sure do not stock up that much on the smaller vehicles.

There was four adults in this car & i think we had 6 or 7 larges case. So i think it could be fine for you also.:thumbsup2

I agree that Dollar rarely (if ever) have the economy model.. That's what we booked but we got given the compact anyway. I've done the same this trip but it's no biggie if we don't get it. I think that jeep would be my limit as far as size goes, I only drive a Polo over here!
