Show to be canceled because attendance will be too high

First they close attractions when attendance is low. Now they plan to close a show because they expect attendance to be too high. I guess they can only keep everything open when attendance is just right (Goldilocks would love the Magic Kingdom).

What am I talking about? The following is from Mouseplanet.com:

"Due to 'projected high attendance levels,' the Sword In the Stone show will not be performed on March 6, 8, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 20, 21, 22, 23, 24, 27, and 29. Apparently, there is concern that huge lines for PhilharMagic on those days will cause enough of a traffic hazard without adding the crowd around the 'stone.'”

There is enough space and alternate passages around most of the world to do some rerouting.

I would think this would be the first solution. Or...OMG! here is another idea - change the TIME for the Sword in the Stone show so it starts and ends at times that aren't peak for the PhilHarmagic line.

OR Fast Pass the PhilHarmagic line.

Good grief. Let's put the Imagineers on this quick!

Sorry I've been grading mid-terms and the lack of original thinking has taken its toll I think.

ALL times are peak times for Mickey's Philarmagic. If you have been to the area on a busy day you would understand why they are cancelling the show. It is no excuse though it was poor planning on someones part with the Philharmagic queue.

If this becomes an ongoing problem, I imagine they will either discontinue the Sword in the Stone show completely, or relocate it to another location. Even prior to Philharmagic the Sword area was often congested..I do see it being a real problem.

Actually, I do understand why this would be a problem, but you'd think they could come up with another solution. If the crowd levels are that high, then perhaps they should move the "stone". You would think they would be going out of their way to keep this around due to the high crowds, but instead they are doing the opposite.

Not at the Stone, though. There have been many times where I've seen the Carousel, Dumbo and IASW lines converge in that same area and turn into one line. Sometimes, people don't even know what they're standing in line for! I don't know how they could satisfactorily reroute the lines in that space to allow for SITS audience.

:earsboy:

Isn't the congestion due to the long Standby line? If it weren't for Fastpass, wouldn't most of the people be able to fit inside? I just don't understand the need for fastpass for shows.

At the very least, it is a very poorly designed queue.

Not only that, but imagine all those guests not being in the gift $hops! ;)

How insane!!

One of the hallmarks of Disney past was crowd management.

I got the perfect place for it. Put the stone in front of where the skyway used to be in Fantasyland. It's got a beautiful garden there that would fit in perfect with the theme. Course then it might interfere with traffic from Liberty Square. Or maybe in the back of the castle closer to Tink's gift shoppe, or Sir Mickey's.

I can see having FastPass for shows, because that way you know what time you are guaranteed a spot. Otherwise, if you are late coming into the line, you may not get in for the next show.
