Since I am getting into using these type lenses more, I am curious as to the shots others have made with them. If you post a photo, please post the lens info as well. I can also use these to plan my next trip in July as to which lenses to have or carry.

Thanks!!

I also have some really cool shots from inside the American Adventure that I have not PP yet, I'll put them up when I do.

I got mine on Amazon for around 64.00 I think - right before Christmas.

Thanks.

I have one more question for those of you posting photos taken with the 50mm f/1.8. Are these photos cropped? It seems like it is pulling the subjects in pretty tight.

A few more with the 50mm F1.8:

1/8s f/1.8 ISO 1600 (I did use Neat Image on this one)

I can't remember for sure, but I don't believe that I heavily cropped any of these.

None of mine are cropped. With a prime you are forced to learn where to position youself for good framing. With the 50mm as a walk around lens, I find myself moving back more often than moving up close to the subject. It is almost unusable for group photos at Disney, but is perfect for couple pictures.

I'd have to go back and look at the original RAW images to be certain, but I think the 2nd and 4th ones I posted were cropped a little, but not very much. The other 2 were not cropped.

You also have to remember that on most dslr's a 50mm lens becomes 75-80mm.

I'm pretty sure that the majority of the photos in my trip report are taken with my 50mm 1.4 and 16mm 2.8. Some also with my 28mm 2.8. I brought my 400mm 5.6 but never got around to actually using it!

The exif data is all there.

One of the fun thing about primes are that since they're faster, it's easier to do narrow DoF photos with them. Here's an example:

A good resource for finding examples of photos taken with specific lenses is the pBase camera database. For example, here's the link to view samples of the Canon 50mm f/1.8.

Almost forgot about this thread. Having computer issues with my main computer.

I don't think the ride was stopped when I took these. It just happened that there was enough light to get a pretty fast shutter speed. I do remember times when the ride was at one of its stoped points and I tried to take a picture (like the Indiana Jones part for one) but it was to dark even at ISO 1600 and f/1.8.

Oh, and to answer someones earlier question about cropping. None of mine are cropped in post processing. But with the Nikon digital crop factor a 50mm lens gives the look of a 75mm lens.

nice photos! we were thinking of just taking the kit 18-70 and getting the 70-300, but maybe I should pick up a 50mm f/1.8?

Its definately a good lens to have in your collection. Very sharp. Its certainly sharper than my 18-70mm lens. The 50mm f/1.8 comes in hand on the indoor rides and also for the night parades. Use aperture priority and set to f/1.8 and use ISO 1600 (or 800 if your not happy with your 1600 performance). If your getting really good shutter speeds you can always stop down to f/2 or 2.8.

I also use this lens when taking portraits of the kids. At f/5.6 it is very sharp. Also nice to get some natural light portraits using somewhere between f/1.8 and 2.8 depending on the available light. Its a great lens to have especially for the price. Canons version is around $80 and Nikons is around $110. Plus is so light that carrying it around the parks is no big deal. It can fit in my front pocket.
