Shouldn't DVC members get a FL res. discount???

The only thing which has bothered me about our DVC membership is the lack of discount on AP's. It seems to me since we have purchased a "real estate interest" in FL, that makes us residents to an extent. At the very least we should get a special DVC AP ticket. We buy our annual passes every year because with the points, we go to Disney at least twice a year. You would think we would get something, right??

What do you think?

seems are they are willing to give us is a discount on Park Hoppers, I wish they would just give us an across the board so we can decide on what type of passes to get. I think they will loose money in the long run, because it sounds like many are still staying on wite, but heading over to Sea World, and Universal.

Even if you owned property outright in FL, that doesn't make you a resident, unless you live there. Owning property and residency are two different things.

Now, whether Disney should offer a DVC discount for AP, is a different matter. I wish they would.

raparker13 is right....my dad owns a condo in Pompano Beach. In order to have rights in Florida, he has to claim that property as his principal residence. He actually votes there now...yes he was one of those chad people!!! He does maintain a condo in Quincy Ma tho. But it's not his primary residence anymore, even tho he really does spend more actual time there!!

I would be happy with an across the board 10% discount on any pass I chose. Have to say that the more we go and the older my dd gets, the less time we will actually spend in WDW proper. There is so much other stuff to do in the central Florida area. We bought DVC because it can be our home base, not just for the parks!

This has been debated and debated. DVC doesn't entitle you to rights as a FL resident. But I certainly agree that it would be great if Disney offered us the annual pass for the same price FL residence get it. That would be awesome.

Resident is the wrong term, I just want the equivalent or at least an across the board discount for tickets, especially the AP's. I think they would want to make sure that members go to the parks and spend money there. I, too, have seen an increase in members who just stay at DVC and avoid the parks. Makes sense to me to offer a better deal to members on tics.

For the AP's ....couldn't he still get a FL AP...even w/out principal residence?
He would need a utility bill from his FL condo w/his name on it, and some type of ID to verify his name, according to the
WDW website. It's listed as as one of the ID choices for FL AP's.

Absolutely!!! I was just making the point that to be considered a resident, he had to change his primary residence.

Unfortunately, that's not the criteria. It has to make sense to Disney; and so far it hasn't.:smooth: :wave2:

This is not correct. FL is one of the states that allows dual residency with another state. If you own property in 2 states and spend a fair amount of time each year at both residences. You can also get a FL driver's license that is good only for the state of FL and still retain a valid driver's license from whichever state your other home is in. We have had dual residency in both NJ and FL for years. We own homes in both states, pay real estate taxes, utilities etc in both states and definitely qualify as a FL residents. We get the FL resident discounts on APs, WDW accommondations and also are Disney Dining Card members, which gives wonderful (20%) discounts in 99.9% of all WDW sit down restaurants.

Being able to get a FL only DL is not the same as having any type of residency. People need to undertand some issues. This isn't a residency issue, it's a "who will Disney let have discounts" issue. It's only tied to residency because Disney says so. When DVC members signed up, they knew this was the case. Or at least they would have if they'd read the legal material presented to them. If they didn't, shame on them. I do agree it's be nice for Disney to offer somethign, I think they'd be better off in the long run. At this point I think they're conditioning members not to hit the parks that much but that's just me.

And of course meeting the criteria for "residency" doesn't mean you are a resident. So if you have a FL address and utility bill or similar, you can meet the criteria and take advantage of the discounts.

Disney's biggest money maker is the theme parks, but I guess they bank on DVCers buying AP passes. I wonder what percentage of DVCers buy APs. It seems like a lot from what's been posted here on the boards.

If Disney offered an AP discount or other admission besides the UPH, I'd be jumping up and down, probably be at Disney more, and might even buy more points to go along with it. I don't understand how they think they are profiting from this. Maybe they are trying to avoid park overcrowding?

This is not so. We most definitely have residency in both NJ and FL and spend approx 6 months in each state. We have had dual residency and have spent approx 1/2 of the year in each state for years.

Where do you vote? Can't be both states.

I'm not disputing that, I'm just saying it takes more than having an address and a FL only license to be a resident of the state.

Believe it or not, technically we can vote in both states. I have received write in ballots quite a few times from FL.

Not according to FL or Disney's eyes. Even college kids living off campus and attending colleges in FL are considered FL residents and yet still maintain their residency in their home state. Maybe because both of the states where I have homes are big tourist/vacation/retirement states with many snow birds/people who have dual homes etc., so it is perfectly natural to us and not an uncommon situation at all.

That explains a lot about the last Presidential election.
