My husband just got me a tiny digital AVI video camera. He got a big? card and says we can film up to 2 hours on it. It does not however have a flash or any other special bells or whistles except it zooms a little bit and does take digital pictures 3.1 pixels. I completely love it. However I want to capture all the usual pictures on our Dec trip and cinderella's show as they will be chaning it next year. Do you think this one camera wilbe enough or should I lug theold VHS-C video camera and my other disital as well?

It depends on the size of your memory in the camera. I would bring your other digital camera to use for still pictures only. You don't want to run out of room!!!!!

Bring the digital still for photos, and use the other for video. Why not pick up an extra card or two as well. I know theyre not cheap. Another option would be to find a place where you can transfer them on to a cd or something to free up room, although this will chew up time. Or stick the brick in a locker and get it out before Cindys show. I lugged a mid size video and a digital camera back in Feb and the video camera got heavy pretty quick. I had it in a waist pack, but got tired of taking it in and out all the time, so I wore it around my neck. I had a sore neck the next day! I recently bought one of the mini video cameras and a smaller digital. I can fit these in pant pockets, so its much nicer!

We take both cameras, but how big is your video camera? We sold our old big video camera last year for 50 bucks at my sister's yard sale. I still wonder how we were able to lug that thing around for years, yikes.

Oh and don't forget...get an extra battery for the digital. We have a total of 4 batteries for our digital camera and 2 for our video camera now. A lot of snapping takes up a lot of battery power. :)

I was on a (non WDW) trip early this summer. I had both a miniDV video camcorder, as well as a digital still camera. I quickly got tired of carrying both cameras, as well as assorted spare batteries, memory cards, video tapes, cables, and accessories. I ended up usually carrying only 1 of the 2 cameras on any given day. I found myself wishing a lot for a nice photographer's vest with lots of pockets (yeah, they're not exactly high-fashion, but I've almost always picked convinience over fashion)

Both cameras take AA batteries whichi s great! unlessI forget them again this trip and have to pay $15.00 for 4 AA batteries as I did in August at MK... but that is another story. The digital video one is smaller than the original digital. Palm sized almost. with a 256? card If that helps.

Sorry, but it you're still using a VHS-C camera, then you'll need to buy a new miniDV camcorder.

They can be bought for as low as US$300-ish and they will yield 100% higher resolution than a VHS-C ever will.

Both...Really, there will be moments for video and moments for stills.

Anytime it's a new camera, just make sure to use it and learn its quirks BEFORE your trip.

Cheers.

I vote for digital...the VHS C will not produce the same calrity and you will get near DVD quality with the newer model

Sperk99,

The digital camera the OP is referring to is the digital camera that will record its data to memory card. Unless you're recording at full resolution and have several Gb (minimum 4.7 for 1 hour of material) of memory card, the picture quality will be debatable.

However, having said that, rather than buying 4 Gb of memory card, it'll be cheaper just to buy another miniDV video-cam (around US$300) and a whole bunch of tapes (about US$3 per 1-hour tape in a bulk of 10) and bring that along as an addition to the digicam.
