should you tip if you have breakfast/lunch at tritons?

CSX2 -- i know what you mean....whenever we eat out, we're big overtippers and it always gives me a good feeling to see the big smile on the server's face.....

.....(our regular head server was also phenomenal....unfortunately, i don't remember his name....but since he made our trip for us, we tipped him more than 10 times what the suggested amount was...and he deserved every penny of that.....nevertheless he was very surprised and touched by the gesture...

Let me get this straight.....that would be $27.50 per person per day for the head server, which would make it over $100 each day for a family of four just for the head guy......no wonder he was surprised and touched!

Yes, almost $300 is a huge tip! :earseek:

There's no reason to tip 10 times the suggested amount, but it is reasonable to go above the suggested amount.

For a 7-night cruise the suggested gratuities per guest, per cruise, are
-- Dining Room Server: $25.75
-- Dining Room Asst. Server: $18.75
-- Dining Room Head Server: $6.50
-- Stateroom Host/Hostess: 25.25

That's $76.25 per guest for the whole week, which works out to a total $305 for a family of 4. Total. Not per day. Not per guest.

That may seem like a lot of money, but when you realize that's for all of your meals and all of your housekeeping for your whole family for the whole week, it's really not bad at all. In fact, you may find yourself tipping more, perhaps much more, by the end of the week.

Cruse ship service employees get paid about $50 per month, and they receive room and board (shared cabins at the bottom of the ship and crew food). Their real income comes from gratuities. That's how they house, feed, and educate their families back home.

To return to the original question, cruise passengers don't have to worry about constantly tipping. Just tip on the last night. That's how the process works. But tip generously if you've received the great service that most of us have gotten on DCL.

Just think about the tips for the two 14 day cruises next year!!

$610 + drinks room service etc!!!! for familiy of four.

Restaurant Server $51.00
Restaurant Assistant Server $37.50
Head Server $13.00
Stateroom Host(ess) $50.50

Need to start saving now!!!

we were on the 3 night cruise 2 years ago....at the time the suggested tip for the head server was $2.25/person/cruise

there were 4 of us (2 adults and 2 teens)....that would have been $2.25 x 4 = $9.00 tip for the entire 3 night cruise...
we tipped him $100, or just over 10 times the amount that was suggested...
but as i said, he made our cruise for us and so deserved every penny....

our waiter was supposed to get something like $44, and we also tipped him $100....(so only a little over twice as much)..

:earseek: Must have been unbelievable service! They were very lucky to have served you! ::yes::

I stand corrected about the $2.75/person/day.......that's actually the amount for the 3-day cruise. Even so, you guys give new meaning to the word generous........I always thought we were generous tippers but you have us beat by a landslide! Not that I don't agree some of the servers are worth it.....it's just that if we tipped like that, the cruise would be totally out of our budget. I'm happy to know that some servers just get lucky!

our head server (i.e., the maitre d') went so out of his way for us...and with such understatement.....he did it all very quietly, elegantly and modestly.....he as amazing....and he really made our cruise, i'm not just saying that....and we wanted him to know just how much he made our cruise for us...
i hope he's still on the ship, although i doubt that 2 years later he is...but maybe...
