a couple years ago he decided he wanted a ponytail. the only problem is he is totally bald on top. so now he is a bald guy with a ponytail. he is convinced it looks cool.

My husband and I were out for lunch on Saturday, and I was people watching. There were 2 married couples out together who appeared to be 50ish and middle class. One of the guys had a gray, scraggly, greasy looking ponytail, and the other guy had a nice haircut but two gold hoop earrings. I told DH that if I had to choose, I'd rather him get the earrings :teeth:.

Monkeyboy - do you just ask questions like this to give us something to talk about? What would you do?

Not that you wanted a guy's opinion, but I think I'd go with it close cropped. Fortunately I still have quite a bit of hair. Unfortunately it's mostly gray.:(

I go for close cropped
I think there is less time to care then total bald

Depends on how much hair was gone. Just a little keep it cut very short, a lot than shave it off.

My uncle shaves his head with coochy cream, to prevent red bumps. We call him the Polish Daddy Warbucks :D

Aww, don't be sad, Micca. Gray can be quite sexy, too, just like bald can be :). It all depends on what you do with what you have. Even a full head of non-gray hair can be VERY unattractive :scared1:.

Ooooooo, yes! Closely cropped or shaved! It not only looks sexy (where's Pop Daddy?), but it shows that the man has a lot of self-confidence by not even attempting to hide the fact that he's losing his hair.

Aaaaaaack! No combovers! :crazy2:

My brother has shaved his head very close because it's almost all gone. I like it.

My DH's hair is unbelievably thick in the back and gone in the front. He also has a goatee (sp?) and I think he looks great. He hates it. Not much he can do though.

Comb overs? Crack me up when I see 'em!

OK as a balding guy who used to wear long hair, and probably will again, i currently shave mine.. once surgery are all over i may let it grow back out as dw likes the curls,, but in my honest opinion,, God only made so many perfect heads the rest he covered with hair:).

My SO is lucky enough to be the one with a perfect head! He lost his hair at 12 yrs old from chemo, and he is one SEXY bald guy! :smooth:

I think so much depends on your personal style.

Biker dude: grow it long and wear it in a braid. Even if you are bald on top, it will mostly be covered by your bandana (no helmet of course for you).

Lounge singer: longish on the sides and back with one section left long enough to cover the dome - with careful combing and plenty of hair spray... or epoxy. After all, under the hot lights of the stage, you really don't want that much glare do you? It will only detract from the rhinestones on your jumpsuit.

Real man: cut it close or shave it. Why worry about going bald when there are so many positive things to consider:

1) Money savings - think of all the shampoo, conditioner, styling products, etc. that you won't have to buy so often. Also, if you are so inclined you can do your own cutting/shaving and save even more.

2) Save time - in addition to not needing as much hair care products, you won't need as much time to get wash, dry and style it.

3) Better for the environment - since you'll be using less hair care products, less will get into the water system. You'll also be able to reduce the amount of water and other resources you use for caring for your hair. Less plastics will be consumed since you'll no longer need combs or brushes plus you'll be disposing of fewer empty hair product bottles and tubes each year.
