We have the opportunity to go to DLR this year. Should we do it this spring break time or wait until the summer?

When is your spring break? Schools all have different ones..maybe find out when the LA school have break!

There are pros and cons to both. Here are some things to consider...

The weeks before and after Easter are when many local schools have Spring break here. The weather is nicer (cooler) than in the Summer and they should be running the better fireworks show (Remember...Dreams Come True). Attendance numbers could jump a bit in late April and May when World of Color opens in DCA, but your Spring break is probably well before this.

On the other hand, this Spring, the Rivers of America will be drained which eliminates a handful of attractions, not to mention Fantasmic (which is superior to the one in WDW). Actually, they are draining it on Monday, and I think the river will open back up for business in June.

There are other factors, but this is what I can think of off the top of my head. I'm sure other DISers will share their thoughts. It's your call, but either way, you'll enjoy visiting Walt's original magic kingdom.

Summer. Here's why:

1. Spring Break, if your's falls right in line with many other schools', is extremely busy. Often, it's busier than summer. Mid-July-Early August midweek will probably have lower crowds than Spring Break.

2. As PP mentioned, this spring the Rivers of America will be drained = no Fantasmic, no boats, no rafts to the island, and lots of construction walls.

3. World of Color, new nighttime spectacular at DCA, will be opening in late April. I wouldn't miss this new show, so summer would be a guaranteed time that it's running. Nobody is quite sure exactly when it's supposed to premiere, so it's risky during April.

4. Full entertainment in June, including (hopefully) Disney's Electrical Parade, Magical! fireworks show, Fantasmic, etc. Fireworks would be the only one of the three shown during Spring Break (although I agree with PP in that it is a better show).

I agree with DLR29 al the way down the line. :)

When does the Summer promotion usually be advertised? Trying to talk the wife into going to the Grand Canyon with a little stop over in DL.

So do you think that Spring Break time may be slower than normal because of all of the above? And people wanting to wait until the new World of Color, and Fantasmic, etc.?

Or do you think that it won't make any difference on the crowds and that it will be as busy as it normally is?

We are going during Spring Break (end of March) and I am hoping it won't be too horrible, but according to the Convention Center site, there is going to be a lot of :cheer2: :cheer2: at that time.

I still expect it to be very crowded this spring because of the new show. I would think many locals will come to see it, including those who don't go often. Just my thought.

The summer attractions start about mid June. Don't remember when they start advertising it. Maybe spring? It probably depends on when they know for sure what they have to offer.

For summer- I would try to avoid June and go in July or August. June still has the Socal APs and I was there last June at the end of it. The difference between Socal APs blocked out and not was amazing! We plan to go the first week of August this summer.

Our trip in Early July and another in early August when all APs were blocked except, of course, Premium, was heavenly compared to the fall when it was a free for all. I highly recommend going during times when both SoCal APs are blocked and the Saturday's when Deluxe are blocked are wonderful. And, being aware of special events that will bring zillions of people into the park (like spring break or conventions and the opening of World of Color).

A lot of CA schools go a bit later into June than schools around here and maybe that is the case for schools where you live too. Early June can be a great time to go if that works for you. The locals would still be in school, which would cut down on the crowds. DL has a much greater fluctuation in attendance with locals than WDW does (guess that is what almost a million AP holders (many SoCal residents) can do.

We are shooting for the week of the 15th of August, that is if I do not loose one of my jobs.

Good luck with that! We only get to go this summer because I was able to sign a new contract to continue teaching full time this semester. It was up in the air if I would be part time or full time after Christmas. Of course, next year if I even have a job, is another story. Good thing the AP will last through that next summer! That is why we are going in August. :thumbsup2

The nightly entertainment for the summer should start on Friday, June 11.

Last year the Summer Nightastic wasn't announced until April 24.
