Should we wait to rent car until we are onsite at Disney?

Last year we went to Disney and by the time all of the fees were paid we spent over $370.00 on our car. We did use it to go to Sea World, Typhoon Lagoon, Hoop Dee Doo, grocery store and a couple of resorts - probably a total of 40 miles.

My question is, are we better off taking a shuttle to Disney and just renting a car for a couple of days from a location on site?
There are four of us and we do want to make a grocery store stop on the way as we are staying at BWV..... Has anyone just rented a car for a few days? We did love the convenience of having a car when we wanted.

Thanks for any info....

I would watch for deals. I rented a fullsize car from National in October & December and paid around $120 for a week incl taxes. Try mousesavers for special deals. You usually have to check often but I've always found something reasonable (under $140).

I agree. Watch the websites for deals. You will get a better deal by arranging for the car ahead of time.

Did you rent your car at the airport and if so, did those rates include airport taxes? Seems we were taxed many $ on our rental from Alamo last March. Thanks for any info....

I would rent a car if you need one at all because by the time you pay transfers to and from the hotel you could get a rent a car for not that much more. That is what we always do. Have a great trip!.
