Should we take our twins?

We are going to Disney for the day mid-week at the beginning of May to celebrate our oldest daughter's birthday (she'll be turning 5). We also have twin girls who will be 23 months at the time. We have the option to leave the twins at our in-laws for the day or bring them with us. The hours for the Magic Kingdom that day are 9 AM to 9 PM, and we would probably stay the whole time. What would you do?

I'd go with just your older daughter. While the twins would have a blast it might be nice for your older daughter to have some one-on-one time alone with mom & dad.

I'd leave them - having twins, I know how much work they can be, especially at that age. We've left them behind (even last year, when they were 5, and we were going to DC).

Leave the little ones with the in-laws and go have a blast with your daughter. She will really appreciate the special time with you. That is what I would do!

At first I thought "yes! definitely," but now that I've read other PP's responses, I think a little alone time with your older DD is a great idea. Especially since it's her B-day! :cheer2:

I think a little alone time with your 5yr old would be great. :thumbsup2 That is something I never do with my kids is spend one on one time with them and I think it would be great to start out doing it early on so they can get used to it.

I would leave the twins, and let your dd have a very magical b-day.

If this were a multi day trip I would say to take them. But, since it is a day trip and the oldest's birthday, leave them and make it a super special day for your older child.

Yes, for one day leave the twins with the inlaws. Your DD will love the special attention and one on one time! That would be a very special birthday gift and the twins are young enough still to leave and not be too upset about it. Have a great time:)

I would take them with me. We celebrate birthdays as a family here. There is no way any of our kids would want to go alone anywhere for their birthday. Part of the fun is being with their siblings. We make a fuss over the birthday child. Every one of us does. Do what works for you but since you asked I will say that no, I would not leave them at home.

I have twins. They will have such a good time with grandparents. I am so glad our boys had visits with mom and dad as they cannot do it now. 23 months is a great time for grandparents to have them.
As far as dd is concerned, the twins have probably taken up so much of your time that it is only fair she have this time. When she has left home, you will have them to spoil on their own.
My good friend took her oldest (6 and 7) and left two younger ones (2 & 3) with grandma. It went well for them.

Thanks for all the replies. We asked DD what she wanted, and she wants it to be just of three of us. So, the twins will be with the grandparents, and she'll be getting lots of attention.

To me it depends on your family. My oldest would never, ever want us to leave her siblings behind and go to DW. I think my middle child might enjoy it if he was the center of attention for the day. What kind of relationship does your daughter have with her sisters and what is her opinion about leaving them?

I bet if you ask any child if they would like to go to disney alone they would say yes.

I would definitely let my daughter have alone time on her birthday. It's only one day, have birthday cake the next evening with the twins. They won't know that's not her birthday.

i know i am in the minority but i would feel bad, (guilt is big with me) if i were in disney without any of my kids

We have 4 kids 6 and under. For their birthdays they get to pick one thing to do with mom and dad alone. At first they felt a little bad about leaving their sibs at home, but now they enjoy the special day.

I vote to go with older daughter alone.
