My fiance & I are going on our honeymoon in late May. A week of which will be in Disney. We know we are going to take half cash and then half on visa. Thing is, we don't know if we should take our bank card, or just load a visa check card? that way if it gets stolen we wouldn't have to worry about it too too much? We are not sure what to do. Also, how much do you think we will need for 5 days in disney? we already bought tickets, and dinner with shamu. We are doing sea world for 2 days, magic kingdom for one, and animal kingdom for one.

thanks!!!

Welcome to the boards and congrats on getting married! (look at my signature)

How much you spend depends on the choices you make. Counter service meals run about 10-16 bucks with a drink. Sit down meals cost 25-45 bucks. All of these are per person and have no tax or tip.

We usually carry very little cash--maybe 125-200 bucks because we put everything on our credit card and pay it off once we get home.

We actually carry 2 credit cards in case one has an issue.

Cash is mostly needed for non-meal tips.

Your food tips can always be added a meal bill.

Sorry I don't have any other hard data for you.

We also bring two credit cards (a primary and back up) with us when we go and charge everything we can. We're not impulse buyers so it works really well for us. We really don't like carrying a lot of cash with us and we always pay off the card when we get home so there's no interest. If the card is lost or stolen we're not out any money.

My wife and I take very little cash maybe $200, only for tips for transportation (taxi, bell hop) and maybe one or two souvenirs. We generally have our hotel paid for by our DVC points and purchase a Disney Dining Plan when we get there for the time we are there. (I think you can only get them if you stay on Disney property)

If you are staying on Disney property the dining plan is worth it (about $37 a day per person) includes 2 meals a day, 2 snacks, 2 drinks, all gratuities included. It can also be used at more exclusive dining areas too.

I considered getting a prepaid visa at one point also then I heard some stories about the card not working properly. SOmeone said something about the balance inaccurately saying zero. That was enough for me to say NO THANKS! I am bringing my debit card and a regular credit cards. I am only leaving enough money in the debit that I need. That way I can't overspend.
