Should we switch from mid August to the end of August?

Right now we have August 8-14 booked. Because of things that have changed we could go the last week. I have already checked and our resort is available the last week.
Should we switch to the end of August?
When do crowds start to drop in August ?
I know hurricanes can be any time after June, but are they more active towards the end of August?
From past trips if I remember right it seems like hurricanes are more active at the end of August into September.

Yes, the chances of hurricanes increase later in the month. September is peak for them. With that being said, Hurricane Charley hit Aug 13-14th.

Okay. Hopefully a hurricane won’t hit when we need to fly home. I’m not that worried about hurricanes when we are at Disney just about our flights being canceled.

It's anyone's guess what this year will bring - but we almost always go the last week of August/the first week of September because school doesn't start until after Labor Day around here. In a normal year, crowds are SIGNIFICANTLY lower than mid-August (we did a long weekend once in mid August, and were genuinely shocked at how much more crowded it was). Honestly, in the past, we've joked it's us and a whole lot of British people at the end of August because it always seemed like we were the only Americans in any given crowd.

Have you had any trouble with hurricanes at the end of August?

We haven't ever had any issue with hurricanes - we've had a day or two here and there that were non-stop rain rather than the typical afternoon storm, but that can happen at any point in the summer.

Yes we have had those rainy days in other months.

Hurricane Dorian famously hit in 2019 right when they were opening Galaxy's Edge end of August/start of September. It ended up changing course at the last minute and was devastating in the Bahamas but barely affected Florida. However, tons of people had cancelled flights and scrambled to leave early when the forecasts were looking bad, was a mess.

I remember that☹️

Schools in many places start in mid August - so the end of August tends to be less crowded, but then crowds can pick up again over labor day weekend. We live in the NYC and schools do not start until the TH after labor day (and this year even later), so we are going the end of August. Hoping we can brave the heat.

We were there during Hurricane Dorian. Parks and non-resort dining closed for 1 day and our flights were canceled. We weren't able to get a new flight until 3 days later. Parks were empty and weather was cooler after the storm. It was stressful but if you have to be stuck somewhere, WDW isn't the worst place 🤪

Oh gee. What resort were you staying at and did they let you stay an extra 3 days?

We were on a free dining package at Pop but had APs. I believe we got an AP discount for 1 day and if I remember accurately something a few more dollars than AP rate called a "hurricane rate" for the next two days (in the same room). We had been on deluxe dining for the package but paid OOP for food for the last couple days with TIW. It was mostly CS including the food court at that point, lol. We had the option to stay an additional day in Pop if need be, but luckily got a flight out.

Oh good! I’m glad you got to stay in the same room. We won’t have a car and don’t plan on renting one.

We are doing the last week of August. I'm in NY, and it helps us through that week between camp and school. I would have to take those days off anyway.

We like the 3rd week in August. Crowds are pretty good, and we easily get the fast passes we want (haven't been during covid). We are going in August 2022 for 2 weeks. I wanted to go the last 2 weeks for less crowds, but my husband really wanted to go for weeks #2 and #3 to celebrate our anniversary and our daughter's birthday on August 8th, so that's what we're doing. I hope it's not too crowded.
