Should we rescind?

Yes, once and 8 years ago is definitely not how he made it sound. Oh well...nothing can be done about it now. What do you mean by selling new points at VWL? How are they getting new points? Are more villas being added? I thought each resort had a precise number of points. I'm very curious to see how this plays out. I know that 2057 is a long way off...but that should be a great time for my family...I suspect I'll have grandkids by then and I'd hate to have the membership expire in my golden years :)
DVC is renovating the main building at VWL and converting the South Wing to DVC in addition to adding lakeside cabins similar to the Poly Bungalows. They've hinted strongly that they'll sell it as a new resort, VWL II, with a new end date and its own points.

Rumor is that BCV and possibly BWV are next.

Whether they'll offer extensions to current owners is an open question. They almost certainly will not repeat the OKW experiment.

They are building waterfront cabins and perhaps converting some of the rooms in the Lodge to DVC units - there's a thread about it here on DIS, I haven't followed the discussion closely, but there are some maps showing the locations of the additional cabins and much discussion about the ongoing disruption caused by the construction as well as guesses about how DVC will handle the points for the new WL villas/bungalows.

Did you rescind? Inquiring minds....Everyone here is awesome at answering questions. That are all very good at weighing the pros and cons. DVC at times is an emotional purchase and two days later the emotions have steadied and now you have second thoughts. Please rescind...take your time and do your research. You already know the Poly is not your resort...lucky you to find out now. Please do not invest thousands because " a guide" told you this or that....that is what they are paid to do.

Looking back do I wish I had waited for a resale at AKV, sure...do I regret our direct purchase from Disney in 2009...nope. But we are older and do not have children. Our travel habits are not likely to change. DVC does change your travel habits though. No one really understands that until 3 years in...

You are watching Stacy for the 12,498th time, you have eaten at all the great restaurants, you have used your three FP that morning and have now finished your afternoon swim at the resort. You are 47 and your DH is 51...you have just found Nat Geo on the TV....hmmmm they don't have that on cable where I live....hmmm, lets just stay here I will pop some popcorn and you finish up the M&Ms....wow, just laying here at a world class resort with everything a bus ride away...but you are "home" and a giraffe just walked past the window....let's just stay here tonight...I can't begin to tell you how important it is to pick the right resort.....

Thank you so much, everyone! We rescinded!!! Now I'm crunching the numbers ... and crunching .... and crunching. Possibly to make up for our dumb almost-purchase, I feel like I'm working overtime to make better choice this time around. :)

This is SUCH a sweet image, ToddyLu. Thank you for sharing. :)

It can get a little obsessive, just give it enough time to soak in and get a true feel. You're actually one of the lucky ones, % wise most don't figure out in time they should have canceled and gotten better educated.

Thanks for the update. I think you made the right decision. If Poly had more room options, I could see keeping the contract.

It didn't take me long to find the right resale contract. I have learned so much from everyone here. Good luck hunting.

Happy Hunting then!!!! I am relieved. DVC isn't going anywhere, so you have time. I mean it is (don't quote me on this) 140 points per person for a 3-4 night cruise, 400 points to do an ABD Trip for one to Ireland...and 75 points a night to stay at the hotel near the Biltmore. Just pay cash for those and do resale. I can stay a week in a value studio at AKV for 76 points at a certain time of the year. Can't wait to hear what you decide and welcome you home!!!

How many points were you buying? Example: If it was 200 pts and you did rescind that's good. If you like BWV why not buy maybe 100 pts resale ( 300 with borrow and banking) there with 2042 ending. Then do research for another DVC home with a longer ending and buy some there (resale). Just make sure they have the same use year.

Yes more villas are being added.

They will be a new resort, with, i would assume a 50 year contract.

And that comment about extensions, was indeed perhaps the biggest lie ever told buy a guide; that is some serious lack of ethics.

I just thought of the analogy for this. New Coke. Remember?
