Should we purchase DVC?

My husband and I have talked a lot about DVC. We just do not know if it makes sense for us. Please let me know your thoughts.

- We have two daughters ages 9 & 4.
-We go to Disney every other year.
- We always stay deluxe (on the monorail so I would probably buy into BLT if announced),
- We would never make use of the kitchen or laundry room.
- We always seem to get a pincode for at least 20% off.
- WE LOVE DISNEY!

Sounds like you may be good candidate for DVC.....just crunch some numbers to see if it truly makes sense for your family. As I always have said it was the best investment I've ever made...into my family that is.

We've stayed in only deluxe resorts for many years and finally bought DVC in December 2007. We are big fans of the Poly and still stayed three nights this past summer (using AP discount). Along with our 6 DVC nights at BWV, we had a 9 night vacation! We are taking another 7 night vacation in December. Only one night is not on DVC points, but using a DVC discount.

I love being a DVC member and want to add-on when BLT is open. I also love having all the space a 1-bedroom gives my small family. It's great having a kitchen for a quick breakfast and a washer/dryer so we don't have to pack so many clothes and don't have a stinky pile of clothes sitting at the bottom of the closet. Once you have them, you will want them on every vacation. It makes life on vacation less stressful. Also, my DH and DD like having their own TVs (I don't get one.)

My DD (11) wants us to rent a two bedroom next time, so she doesn't have to hear DH making breakfast in the morning. She wasn't sure about owning DVC, because she LOVES the Poly and was afraid she wouldn't be able to stay there anymore. But now she loves it and wants even more space. We think this is both cute and totally ridiculous to have three people in a two bedroom villa.

Look at this way, either rent with Disney every other year or put your money toward owning Disney. If you keep going for many years, it will pay off in $$ and in the quality of your vacations.

We own at SSR. We absolutely love it! We use to stay at the deluxe or moderate resorts during our vacations. We stayed one vacation at SSR, and we were SOLD! We love the extra space (usually a 2 bedroom), kitchen (even though I (DW) said, I was NOT cooking on vacation), washer/dryer, large bathrooms, etc... I don't know if we will ever go back to a hotel or studio. We are family of 5. Good Luck!

So, buy DVC and bank all your points on
the odd years and stay at the Poly on the even years!

It'll take a bit of time but DVC will pay off!
Besides, if you're like alot of us DVCers...
you'll want to BRAG about being an owner!

Dh and I bought into DVC at AKV in Dec 2007 (just added on another 160 points 8/9/08). I had never been to WDW before purchasing, June 08 was our first trip, and omg everything was perfect, I wouldn't want it any other way. We have 4 trips planned for next year. If you and your family love Disney World and plan on vacationing every other year, it is definately for you. DVC makes it possible for everyone to have a great vacation with their family or a romantic getaway, you decide what type of room you want/need. Having a kitchen, washer and dryer is awesome (which is nice when dh does the cooking)!! Who gets that?! It pays for itself in no time, and its something to share with your family for many years to come. Figure out how much money you spend now on vacations and add that up for the next 49 years, vs DVC. Plus they are offering awesome incentives now with the purchase of AKV...the offer we received ends Aug 15th. The only thing I regret is not finding this site when we first bought into DVC, when we first bought we didn't receive anything extra....good luck, and only you will know if it is good for you and your family.

I'd encourage you to rent points (or if you aren't comfortable with that, do a cash night through CRO) at a DVC resort. While I like DVC resorts and the extra space with kids is WONDERFUL - there are things I really do prefer about the Deluxe resorts. (I like mousekeeping, not enough to pay for it, but enough that I miss it when I don't have it. I like real beds and not pull out couches - that means a two bedroom - a huge increase in points (which translates to costs) over a studio.) Understand the differences. DVC can be a good deal for someone like you, but you also wouldn't be the first person who discovered you weren't as thrilled as people told you you'd be once you actually stayed. You also wouldn't be the first person to say "we'll never use the kitchen or the laundry" and discover them to be critical features to your DVC happiness (I didn't think I'd use either - and LOVE having both - we have breakfast in the room easily each morning - and can throw in a load of shorts and t-shirts - which means we pack a lot less - and have a lot less to wash when we get home).

Yes!!! You already know what WDW has to offer, you have been there before. You would undobtedly begin going ATLEAST once a year, just because you could. I wouldn't focus strictly on BLT because it a monorail resort, Disney has plenty of other resorts that are just as nice without the mono!

Monthly Maintenance fees (can be paid once a year)
Finance charges and a monthly note if you choose to finance
