Should we press charges?

Yes. I would press charges. These kids incidents will only escalate if they get away it. If nothing else they need a good scare.
My little cousin's friend lost his life over petty kid stuff last summer. Kids from one neighborhood would key cars/flatten tires/smash windows of kids in another neighborhood. The groups decided to meet. One kid brought a handgun & now another boy is dead. Stupid stuff can have terrible consequences.

You should most defitinely press charges!!! By not pressing charges you are rewarding their behavior and encouraging them to do more of the same as they will suffer no consequences for their actions!!!! A no brainer IMHO.

Press charges. If this is a first offense, I'm sure that the penalty will fit the crime. And the boys will learn a valuable life lesson. Todays pranksters could end up being tomorrows criminals.

My...aren't we all sexists ;) From the footprints I saw, my guess is that the perpetrator was a female (at least in our yard).

Yes I would press charges.

For the past 2 weeks in our local paper under the "police blotter" it seems all I have read about is stolen holiday decorations. It makes me sick. Maybe if someone got caught and punished this sort of crap would stop. (well, I can hope, can't I?)

The one thing that Doctor P didn't mention is that, as far as I know, we weren't told who the kids were. I really wanted to press charges because if it was kids that hang around our neighborhood at this house not too far from us - this is not the first "problem" we have had with them....I called the cops on them one other time because it was 3 in the morning and I hadn't been to sleep yet - they wouldn't let me!!!!!! And just a note - although it is a christmas deco (people are probably wondering why we still have christmas deco still up) it is more of a winter deco also so I left it up with some of our lighted snowmen and another white spiral tree and our snowman flag and another decoration. None of those were touched - which surprised me very much.

I would probably press charges, unless you did have different information that made you think it was just a prank and that they had fully intended to return everything undamaged. They may be really good kids who made a stupid decision. If that's the case, pressing charges may be just the thing to scare them enough that start acting more grown up and thinking about what they do.

I think you are doing the right thing.

You mean that GIRLS do that sort of thing too? :earseek:

I had no idea. I guess I had better go home and have a talk with my DD. :)
