Should we go to the Polynesian Cultural Center?

I typically try to go to PCC when I visit Oahu. A lot of the kids that are doing the tours are actually students at the university there and this is how they pay for their schooling. I have been often enough that I pick and choose the villages that I visit because I think some are more fun then others. I always visit Tonga because I have actually visited there and it is fun to see the expression when you convey that message since it isn't a place that a lot of Americans visit.

If we go to Florida, we're knowingly and purposefully going to visit WDW or US.

However, if we're going to Hawaii, a Caribbean Island, or any other location that has businesses owned by local natives we're going to support those businesses as much as we can. This has nothing to do with what church or religion owns a particular business.

We just try to support the little guys.

Makes absolutely no sense but enjoy.

Are you going just because it’s a local business? For me it‘s just so touristy and unreal, but of course that’s only my opinion. And as a local institution that’s been around for decades and decades, I don’t really think they’re the little guys.

We spent a day there in April but didn't do the lu'au as we had one booked elsewhere. I would definitely go back! There was so much to do that we couldn't fit it all in. I also like that you're helping to pay for people's education.

I went to the PCC on my first ever trip to Hawai'i many, many years ago (a trip with my Mom). We were both pretty naive and booked it as a day trip tour and didn't know what we were getting into. A large tour bus picked us up at our hotel in Waikiki early in the morning. It was a long bus ride. Once we got there we felt something was odd and it took us awhile to figure out that it was run by the LDS. There were parts we enjoyed (the different cultures) but there were also parts that made us feel uncomfortable and out of place. Since we went as part of a larger tour group we were essentially stuck there for the duration (after the luau). I remember it was a nice show but it was a long day and we couldn't wait for everything to be over and to get back to our hotel (which wasn't until very late that night since it was so far). I've no interest in going back.

Went in 2019 and it was the highlight of our trip. We had a package that included a tour guide, luau and the nighttime show. The whole day was great. Luau just ok, felt rushed a little. Our friends that are native to Oahu came with us and they enjoyed it as well. They had been there several times! We are going back this year because we didn't get to see everything last time. Not doing the luau/show this time. Just exploring without a guide. The tour guide was great but I feel like we would've moved quicker through the lands and got to see more on our own. Each land puts on a great presentation. Especially Samoa!! So fun!!
