Should we get a wheelchair or ECV?

If you are going to rent a ECV, you might want to rent one from off site. They will cost less and you will have it all the time, not just in the parks. Also the parks have a limited number of ECV's to rent, and they are on a first come/ first served basis, so you run into the possibility of none being available to you when you need it. You also can not take it from one park to another.

Apple Scooters is a good company with some of the lowest rates out there for their ECV's.

Thanks again, peemag!

My aunt had an unexpected foot injury before her trip a few weeks ago and went with Apple. She was impressed and they were a lot cheaper!

i would rent from offsite and yes i would use at Animal Kingdom. it is a small park but lines can be long and we always seem to doa lot of walking there. plus walkways seem to be a different material there and weather always seems hotter there. would have dad pratice at stores and malls before you leave. i also have issues with standing and have grown to love trips with ECV. some of longest lines are for transportation back to resorts and if line is short then wait is longer. thi is where i love my ECV.

After all your great input, I talked with my mom and made some suggestions. It turns out, they're coming for only 4 days during our longer, 8 day trip. She said that there was no way my dad would let us push him in a wheelchair, even through the lines. She did say that they would rent an ECV for EPCOT though, since it tends to be a lot more walking with less breaks. She's never been to AK, and I've only been one day. Do you think this is another park where an ECV would be a good idea?

If nothing else, I'll just watch for signs of him wearing out and recommend we go rent a wheelchair from the front of the park.

Thanks so much for all the input! I love the DISboards!

I'd just suggest getting an off-site ECV rental. DH and I average between 9 and 13 miles a day in the park. That's a lot of walking, and even more standing still in line.
