Should we change plans?

We're supposed to fly out from Boston on Thursday but the weather is calling for showers and thunderstorms. Should I look at leaving on Friday and coming back a day later or will they still fly during that kind of weather?

You didn't mention what airline you're flying, but if you make a change without the airline offering change fee waivers for weather problems, you're looking at paying a change fee which averages $200 per ticket (except for a very few airlines), plus the fare difference.

Planes fly in rain and thunderstorms all the time. A severe rain storm might cause a delay, but not usually a flight cancellation.

Don't change your plans - any potential Arthur impacts in Boston won't affect you on Thursday.

If your flight is non-stop, you are probably fine. At least based on the current (fallible) forecasts. It doesn't look like the storm would affect BOS until Friday.

If your flight makes a stop, you'll need to look at the forecast in your connecting city. That might make a difference.

However, keep an eye on both the weather forecast and your airline's web site. The forecast so you know for sure if and when you might be affected. The airline so you know if they institute a "weather waiver" that will allow you to change your flights without penalty.
