Should we book the Spirit of Aloha Dinner?

We planned on doing this and HDDR during the summer, but the reviews on allears.net & travelocity aren't very good for Aloha. Does anyone here have a personal Spirit of Aloha experience? The fire dancers & unlimited wine/beer intrigue us, plus we'll get a 20% discount so it will be about $40 a person. Thanks!

We did this during our trip over the Thanksgiving break. It was a wonderful experience for us, but we would not do it a second time. The food was good and the show was enjoyable, but it is quite a time commitment. If you have never been to a luau and don't mind a two hour dinner then I would reccomend it.

We loved it! We did it last year and our kids thought it was the hi-light of our vacation. We all loved the food and the service was by far the best we had on the entire trip.

The only negative was our table did not have a very good view of the show. The tables are assigned when the reservation is made so the sooner you reserve the better. We had a cat.3 only because that was all I could get and believe me I called everyday for 2 weeks. We were there during free dining so we were lucky to get in at all.

I know alot of the reviews are negative but if you look hard enough you will find negative reviews about everything.

We enjoyed the meal and the show. I would not do it for the beer and wine. I had beer and even though I am not a big drinker it was not particularly easy to get a refill. I didn't do all that I could to make sure I got more as one or two is all I will ever have a one sitting. We were glad we did it though.

We had no trouble getting refills at all. In fact, the server would replace our drinks before we even finished them. Even when we said that he didn't need to. However, once the main part of the show starts the service is pretty much finished. They don't want the servers moving about the tables while people are trying to watch.

I went last May with my wife and twin girls who were 5 years old. We did not originally plan on going, but my daughters seemed very interested in Hula Dancing, so we decided to try it out.

We had a ball, the show is much better than the one we saw on my Honeymoon in 1995. The food was good, especially the salad and bread they serve you when you sit down. I thought that the desert was absolutely gross. Overall, I would say that we enjoyed the experience immensely.

As a matter of fact, we are going back to Disney May 2 - 9, and as we only have 5 days of Park Admission available , we are thinking of going to the Hoop Dee Doo show at Fort Wilderness the evening we arrive (we won't go into a park that day), because we enjoyed the Luaua so much last year.

Of course, if we don't get the DDP, we might just try a dinner show outside of Disney.

I did this in 1994 and in 1998 and had fun both times. If it is the same, you can go onstage and learn to hula at the end.

And the fire dancers are pretty amazing.

And you get lei'd.

Did it last month for the first time and definitely wouldn't do it again. If you want the luau experience, just eat at 'Ohanas. The show is incredibly long and though there are interesting parts (such as the firedancer) it's overall rather hokey. The food wasn't great, and service was absolutely terrible and we felt both ignored and rushed, which is a feat at a 2+ hour dinner show. If it were much cheaper I'd say you don't have much to lose, but at near $60 a head and almost 3 hours of your precious Disney time, it simply isn't worth it.

HDDR is a vastly superior dinner show, IMO, when it comes to actual entertainment factor.

We went last year to the Spirit of Aloha Dinner show. Had front row Cat. 1 seating. We all had a great time. Kids enjoyed the show as well ages 12 and 8. Food was good and show was fun.
Now will I be rushing back....... probably not unless we are with other family that wants to do the show.
We have gone to HDDR twice now and would go back in a flash. Loved everything about it.
Which ever one you choose.... Your at Disney and it will be a great time.

Do you have to pay in full with a credit card when reserving the Luau show?
Does the 90 day reservation rule apply or is it futher ahead reservations for dinner shows?

My family and I LOVED it!! The show was amazing and the food was some of the best in WDW. It is about a 3 hour show so those with antsy little ones might want to skip this one, but there is a lot of audience and children interaction within the show, plus a great dessert!

I went there with myself, husband and two boys ages 7 & 8.

The show was a VERY silly Disney show....not worth the money.

The last part of the show had a few guys with a flame batton, that was nice and exciting. But it only lasted a few minutes. Not worth wanting to hang myself during the silly very dumb and corny Disney show!!!!!

The food was good.

At $40 a person, it would still be on the fence to see it.

We were there in Dec 08 and loved it. 1st trip for my dad so we did lots of alternative things to avoid over Disney-ing him - the show was good fun - it's a luau with a Disney flair and the food was pretty good too - the main course we loved - delicious and you can order more when you want it. Wasn't too fussed about dessert - ok but nothing spectacular....the fire dancer is pretty good. We will go back to this show when we take friends with us who have never done Disney before, but for us who go regular we won't do it too often as it is a little pricey. We chose cat. 1 seating and lucked out with the table - front centre - great views!!

We gave our CC number to hold it but it was not charged. They will only charge it if you are a no-show. When you pick up your tickets, you can pay however you'd like.

I don't know about the 90 day rule...we made our reservations less than 45 days before our trip.
