I agree with Robinb.
I used to belong to a message board where it was an unwritten rule that you couldn't delete entire posts just because you said something you regretted, or that was inflammatory. If you did it once, you'd often get called to the mat, and if you did it enough, you'd get banned from the forum.
I think that goes a little overboard. Besides, like others have mentioned, there's always the quote function.

So I did a quick edit. Yes, I shouldn't have posted it to begin with, however, I'm impulsive. I suppose that if the edit button wasn't there, I would have thought twice before posting it. Usually, though, I use the edit button to correct typos or to add to a post since I can't post a new one within 40 seconds and I'm impatient.
