Should this Texas judge be removed?

I just saw this.
I wish she had released the video at the time so that she could have been removed from the home and protected from them. I was even more shocked that the mother was involved instead of trying to protect her.

Yes not only for beating his daughter (since when has 21 lashes not been a beating?) but also because according to him any evidence given by a child is no evidence as all children are fantasists

As a result of the furore, the video was being examined by the District Attorney and previous controversial judgements Judge Adams made in cases involving children have come to light.

In a court judgement last October, Judge Adams said that a child's statements 'amounted to no evidence' despite the fact the child's words had been confirmed by third party witnesses and recorded on video several times. The young person had also been interviewed by a child psychologist who believed the child.

Judge Adams also agreed with a lawyer who claimed all children are 'fantasizers' and their testimony should just be ignored.

He should at the least be removed from his present postion where he handles family-related and juvenile offences as his judgement is now known to be questionable. The case is being investigated, and if and when charges are brought, that will determine if he should be entirely removed from the bench.

I could only make it through bits and pieces of that video. What goes on in this video is far beyond "discipline." It is physical & verbal abuse. There is no excuse for beating someone into submission like that...especially since she was also suffering from a form of palsy.

Disgusting on so many levels.

The daughter was an abused child who is now an adult. She now feels safe and has power to control her situation.

Depends on how you were raised. For most people that would be a beating, if I compared it to my own childhood that would have been a spanking and I would have been glad it was with a belt and not with some of the other things dear old mom used to use. A full on beating would last until mom got to tired to whale on me anymore.

In general though, the mother and father in the video were both sorry excuses for human beings. Sad thing is I doubt the Texas bar will disbar him and doubt that any action will be taken against him.

I'm sorry you were abused. Trust me, I know how you feel. But please, don't pull the whole "I had it so much worse" thing.

Abuse is abuse and it cannot be tolerated. That kind of thinking is what allows abusers to justify their actions. My dad thought he was a good father because he never actually hit me - he just forced me to watch him beat my mom.

I would be upset even seeing someone on the street get beat like that, but someone you love? How could you just stand there? Because, unfortunately, that sort of thing becomes normal for some people. And because when people are abused they have both a pathological need to please their abuser and an almost psychotic need to exert control over others.

I don't believe for one second that she was trying to help her daughter in any way. That was just the cycle of abuse playing out.

This was on my local news a lot because it is not that far from me. I think it's disgusting and disturbing, but I wish the video had been handled differently. She should have taken it to the police, hopefully much sooner after it occured if she wanted to protect a younger sibling. According to the news reports she decided to post it on social media because her Dad was planning to take her car away for some reason.

However, I certainly hope this "judge" is removed from office. What a creep.
