Well, perhaps he should apologize to the MANY MILLIONS of Muslims who aren't savages. :confused3

you are really trying to start this one, aren't you?

But no, I don't think the Pope should have to apologize. Does anyone thinking he should also think Rosie should?

Nope. The Vatican has already put out many statements about his speech. The British Muslims have been satisfied by these statements.

British Muslims sought to calm the situation, praising the Vatican statement on behalf of the pope.

"We welcome his apology and we hope now we can work together and build bridges. At the same time we would condemn all forms of violent demonstration," Muhammad Umar, chairman of Britain's Ramadhan Foundation, a youth organization, told Sky News

I find it funny that what the Pope said is being decried as false and insensitive. What are some doing to disprove it?

During one rally gunmen in Gaza city opened fire at the Greek Orthodox church; no injuries or damage were reported. An unknown organization named “The sword of Islam claimed responsibility for the incident. “We want to make it clear that if the pope does not appear on TV and apologize for his comments, we will blow up all of Gaza’s churches,” the group said in a statement.

From everything I read it was more of an academic speech trying to open lines of communication. Now they feel insulted and the Pope has now been put under extra security. :sad2: When will the world understand how dangerous this all is?

I find it ironic that the muslims are using violence to protest a comment made by the Pope that Islam uses evil and violent means to spread their religion. What does that say about the accuracy of the Pope's statement?

Savages sounds about right to me. Remember the outpouring of peaceful protests over the Dutch cartoon?

To answer the OP, no, the Pope has said enough already.

How do you know they were offended?

That's kind of what I thought. I mean, I haven't seen Christians and Jews marching through the streets burning mosques when they are called pigs and dogs.

When its too late.

Does he owe them one? No, his words, in context, were not offensive to muslims IMHO.

Should he give an apology? Maybe. I guess I think like Galahad that it wouldn't 'hoit' but somehow I don't think it will do much good either.

Many were offended by the Pope's rude and uninformed remarks, including the Prime Minister of Turkey. I'm certain you've seen the news today, Charade, if you've heard of the story in the first place. Ratzinger called Muhammad “evil and inhuman".

Of course there are those who are looking for ANY excuse to further their own violent agenda, but does that mean that the rest of the world's Muslims don't deserve an apology?

The Pope is the head of Catholicism and is seen as a voice for Christianity worldwide. When he makes those remarks he is seen as speaking for his followers.

Islam has no comparitave collective voice.
